Well racist and stereotypical are two different things. Stereotyping involves generalizing a group of people, but racism specifically carries an implication that some people are superior or inferior based on their race.

The lines get blurred when you make a generalization that can be inferred to have a hierarchal point of view.

Saying black guys love rap and hip-hop or white girls love Starbucks is one thing. But it becomes an issue when you have generalizations that demean or discredit an entire race. One of the biggest examples is how for decades Blacks and Hispanics were generalized as criminals and gang members leading to racial profiling that we still see today.

As for positive stereotypes, I wouldn’t consider it inherently racist but the problem is when you say (blank) race has (X) Quality you’re implying that the other races lack (X) Quality.

Even if your intentions are in the right place, if you keep telling one son how smart he is, overtime the other children might feel inferior.

I don’t personally feel that way, but just offering a different perspective on the question.

I think everything is inherently racist on an observational level. Racism is just the same as categorization. And then taking that categorizing and applying known probability. And even if it’s positive or negative, knowing what to expect can be a healthy thing. It’s how we differentiate information. Which is why I choose to be 100% racist against apples… Whether it’s a fruit or mega marketing conglomerate… just be racist against apples and you’ll have a better life.. so says me.. Apple racist Steve-Joe… I know a fucking bad apple when I see one.. cuz all dems apples is bad apples!

If people weren’t “racist” I’m some way of understanding and recognizing differences.. they would have no right to claim that they could potentially “love” “experience” or “understand” other cultures.
@AuRevoir I think everything CAN BE.....and usually is racists..............to a racist.

@anythingoes477 Sounds like some racist words you're speaking there, lots of generalization, lots of assumption, pretty racist talk if you ask me...
Black people excel physically and the most influential group of people on this planet
Asians are highly intellectual and probably have the cleanest diets out of all people
Hispanics are family-centric which I admire so much about them
White people are the best at managing their money

it's ok to point out the strengths in each race. Every day, people just focus on the negative stereotypes because of what they see on the news or on social media. like black people are criminals because they kill more than anybody else. Asians are less attractive, hispanics are illegal and they steal jobs, and whites are racist and are sex offenders/pedos. But nobody points out how the NBA and other pro sports are dominantly Black, how Asians countries are literally living in the future, how hispanics love their family’s so much, they literally communicate with their dead relatives and have a whole day for the dead, and how whites know how to budget When we should really start acknowledging the good about everybody, if people are so hung up on pointing out what makes a group of people so bad, what's wrong with pointing out what makes them so great? I think people just like focusing on the negative because they're lacking and it makes them jealous.

Race (more accurately, human racial differentiation) doesn't exist. We're all just the human race. Racism is the pretense that it exists, whereby such pretense is used to rationalize hatred of people who are different in minor genetic aspects.

These tribal hatreds have always existed, but our present government has developed an aparatus to "protect" the victims i.e. make them dependent of government and thereby provide a large and robust voter base. The tragic irony of such "protection" has played out over the last 60 years or so.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
@irishmolly72 ... and it still hasn't worked. Some beliefs are deeply ingrained. To add insult to injury, that protected base is moving more to the right. That part I don't understand.

It's called ignorance
specman · 51-55, M
TBH , There are some people that call everything racist.
turnedtostone · 56-60, F
@specman not knowing something but declaring it to be true can be a definition of ignorance
specman · 51-55, M
@turnedtostone Like I said people calling out the race card everywhere. He could have said it differently
but someone would make up reasons to call it racist
turnedtostone · 56-60, F
@specman the poster admitted that he thought people would call him out on this and not take this post seriously I still stick by my assertion that it is ignorant to think people because they are a certain race have a certain temperament or have certain abilities that people of other races don't.

If someone isn't what you are generalizing then as. It could lead them to self hatred
pride49 · 31-35, M
@anythingoes477 then you would just be adding fuel to the fire
@pride49 A fire that was burning LONG before I said anything. Anyone that fragile so as to be triggered by a general observation said in the course of conversation...........is a basket case anyway.
