Can someone tell me what the American culture is specifically?

I keep getting told by people that immigrants should adopt American ways but there's walmarts and McDonalds in every corner of the world so people are adopting Western culture. What are specific unique things to America that immigrants need to adapt to though, just out of curiosity. I wasn't aware we had a "specific" thing going on here but whenever I ask, I just get a giant monologue.

From my limited experience of and visits to America, the best part of the culture is a strong sense and of place and pride in where you live. Americans have adapted themselves to a vast range of environments that they have settled and chosen to call home. They have often found ways of coexisting peacefully with different peoples and ideas.

The worst aspect is when politicians narrowly define what it is to be American and use it to define in and out groups. But that general criticism probably applies to most nations.
