Do you agree the holocaust wasn’t about race?

Hitler had Black people working for him
22Michelle · 61-69, T
The Holocaust was a natural extension of the divisive policies of the fascist nazis. Whilst it was mainly directed at blaming Jews for all Germany's, and the world's ills, the real thrust was about promoting " them and us". True Germans were the "superior" Aryans whilst all other "races" were inferior. However, as the Nazix conquered other countries they divided races and ethnicities. Croats v Serbs for example. At that time there were many countries where such division was common, the USA being an obvious example. There it was mostly directed at black people, but anti semitism was common, as if was in much of Europe. Before the rise of the Nazis Germany was seen as being one of the safest countries for Jews. In fact the worry for some Jewish people was the assimilation of Jewish people with Germans and the dying out of the Jewish religion in Germany.
Even in the late 1930's Jews were still fleeing the likes of Poland and Russia still believing Germany was a safer country for them. And during the war the Zionist leaders in Palestine were happy to try and make an alliance with the Nazis. All the time of course the Islamic Grand Mufti was also working with the Nazis.
The lesson to be learned is to always be suspicious and avoid anyone who would try and divide people by race, religion, ethnicity, colour, etc., and would try to persuade you that such people are inferior and / or to blame for your problems. People who offer simple solutions to complex problems eg " build a wall" are fascists, anc usually grifters, getting rich from the adoration of the simpletons who follow their bullshit.

@22Michelle are you new or something ?
22Michelle · 61-69, T
@AthrillatheHunt Been on here about 3 months. Is that relevant to the discussion, or do you have some advice for me?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
What? I guess you are trying to push the issue of whether the killing of 6 million Jews, hundreds of thousands of Romas and imperfect are to be considered racial. Why bother bring this up?

@samueltyler2 it was a horrific and unforgiveable crime. However, I was replying to a post and giving my opinion that saying it was solely down to bigotry is a mistake. Obviously upu disagree.

@ManKing ...well, thanks for pointing that out...like it makes a difference to the answer. Again, it's about the original question.

Black were subjected to Nuremberg rules. Hitler did classify them as a different race. Both blacks and Jews.

Completely disagree

He had lots of pows working for him.
It was still about race. Jewish people, Roma, mixed race individuals, etc. were sent to the gas chambers by virtue of race and ethnicity.
22Michelle · 61-69, T
@basilfawlty89 Indeed so, but it didn't start that way. It was about dividing people into superior and inferior groups. Once a group is accepted as being inferior it becomes easier anc easier to punish them for slights, real or imagined. We see it happening now with immigrants / asylum seekers being criticised and blamed for economic problems in Europe and the USA. And again it's more about a power grab. Get people to fear "the other" and offer simple solutions to get their votes. The simple solutions won't work, but that only works to increase the fear, to get the votes, to have those voters demanding harsher policies, harsher punishments. It is terrifying in its simplicity, how enthusiastically so many religious people are persuaded, and where it might lead.

@22Michelle I hate to disagree, the race card and attempting to eliminate the races he disliked, that he felt were genetically inferior, was always primary in the Nazi aims as written by Hitler. Yes, it is terrifying to see how easily some religious zealots are conned into belief in a savior. That the far right, ultra-religious evangelists are so in love with tRump is totally upsetting. Every time he says and does things totally outrageous, like telegraphing his desires to be a totalitarian leader, he gets more backers in the far right!
