It really depends on the topic. Making fun of rape makes it even harder for victims to go to the police. That leaves rapists on the street to make more victims and makes millions of victims rather suffer in silence. That is definitely more harmful than one person losing their platform to be a professional bigot.
But with many other things, like the design of coffee cups or the phrase people use to wish each other a nice couple of days, people should indeed not be so sensitive.

@NerdyPotato In my country, rape is usually taken seriously and no amount of people joking would ever trivialize it. But in countries that have a rape culture where it is trivialized, I believe the problem lies deeper than any comedians cracking jokes about it. That's my two cents on it, anyway.

@Ducky true, but comedians cracking jokes at it keep the culture intact.

@NerdyPotato I disagree. That seems like one of those things like blaming violent video games for school shootings in my country. In a rape culture, the real problem always lies with country's culture itself and its misogynistic views on women. A reform needs to be done with the country's culture, not their entertainment. But that's an issue no one has the guts or the sense to address, so nothing changes.

@Ducky I partially disagree. The link between video games and school shootings has been debunked many times, but entertainment is part of the troublesome culture. Of course only cancelling comedians isn't enough, but it's one of the elements that need to be removed to heal society.

@NerdyPotato I can agree to a point. You're not wrong about it reinforcing the culture, but I mean to say it's not where one should start with dealing with it. If the actual problem is addressed, then that problem with the comedians should handle itself. Once public opinion over rape changes, they'll see that it's no longer acceptable to joke about and stop doing so, if they value their careers.

@Ducky that's true. It's not the most effective starting point.
