I dunno even know what cancel culture is. Like Dave Chapelle got cancelled? The super successful multi-millionaire who sells out shows everywhere6? Poor guy.

@CountScrofula On wiki it says,
Cancel culture or call-out culture is a modern form of ostracism in which someone is thrust out of social or professional circles – whether it be online, on social media, or in person. Those subject to this ostracism are said to have been "cancelled"
I gather it is like the real world version of being blocked in a sense.

Like taking away one's freedom of speech.

Just my opinion, maybe someone else can explain better.

@CestManan I was making a point about how it's an overstated phenomenon, I know what it means.

More importantly, freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences. If an angry mob wants to tell you to shut up that's their right.

Like when on earth did people get so entitled they decided that nobody was allowed to respond to their speech?
@CountScrofula So many people still believe free speech means “consequence free” speech.
@bijouxbroussard I have been racking my brains for months trying to figure out what you just summed up in a single sentence. Thank you! That's exactly what it is!

@bijouxbroussard I hear you but censorship is a slippery slope, and are we training people to be more and more easily offended by words? I remember sticks and stones break bones but words won’t hurt me. Don’t get me wrong I believe things can be offensive — but we have to strike this balance.

@CountScrofula There is a ton of bickering out there. I would think though that for public figures or businesses, they would have to be really careful in their statements. If possible they should avoid hot topics but if that is NOT possible, they would just have to maybe say what most people want to hear. But then even that could be the wrong answer.

@LordShadowfire which sentence summed it up? One of mine or Count's? I am curious.
@CestManan Neither. It was @bijouxbroussard's sentence:

@StrawberryMilkshake
Cancel culture takes its name mostly from slang used in the makeup community on social media, especially YouTube, Twitter, and more recently TikTok
I imagine the reason cancel culture is big on youtube is because there is a ton of competition on there. It might be possible that the more channels get big, the less payout each one would enjoy. Maybe?

Just a classic business move, the competition trying to either buy out or shut down the other guys.
