I don't understand what some Americans have against the Hispanic population.

And before I have to hear, "it's only the ones here illegally", I have heard plenty of shit talk over the past 20+ years.

Like,

"You're in Murica, speak English!"

Or blaming them for taking jobs.

Calling them derogatory names.

But most of it is just pure Caucasian ignorance and being too dense to understand there are other cultures besides TV, beer and McDonald's.

Ffs look at the beautiful, VIBRANT and spicy culture they have. I personally adore it and it's why I want to live closer to the border. The food, the community and the music. The history. The art. The passion.

It just amazes me when white Americans think their culture is actually a culture and superior to boot.

Pendejos.

@CountScrofula THIS! And tbh, how is someone illegal on stolen land?

I feel like people don't feel comfortable with things that they aren't used to, and therefore subconsciously rally against to a degree...

And sometimes I've seen where people were frustrated or needed to vent, but for whatever reason, either wouldn't or couldn't....

And I have absolutely no understanding of why... but something that they didn't understand, and even though nothing new happened, they could suddenly were able and willing to vent.

Not along culture lines, but I've seen it a LOT from one family member as we were waiting in line to fill up a gas tank.... something about waiting in that gas tank line just ticks them the heck off, and anything and every questionable thing someone does sets them off.

But I've also seen that happen with other people, where they suddenly go off culture things, and I don't understand it either.

I love their culture. I really want to start learning more Spanish so I can communicate more effectively.

I took Spanish classes in Elementary school and then worked with people from Mexico for a few years in my teens. They were some of the most lovely people I've ever met.

I remember much the same when much younger than you when the locals here admonished people for speaking Polish or Italian. Probably the fear is that they’re talking about them or just the difference in cultures.

I remember years ago at an old job where a Hispanic family was talking as they shopped and a coworker said they should have to learn English to come here. I was asked how he knows they don’t speak English. Sure they weren’t speaking it at the moment, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t.
@Straylight most Hispanic people I know speak Spanish and English. So to hear someone comment about their language, when they can't even speak English none too good is humorous.

Meanwhile I've been trying to learn Spanish for fifteen years and I'm still struggling 🥹

@MarbleMarvel It’s always the ones who could probably use some multiculturalism that are the most resistant to it.

@MarbleMarvel Also, I love your new profile pic.
My son is half Hispanic. I have seen it. Seen what his father went through.
@MarbleMarvel very true. I don't see a big majority of my family to this day because of the way they acted towards my son
@Bexsy what the feck??? That's their loss then. My family was like that too...

I just don't get it.

Even the ones who are here illegally, who even cares. I've yet to hear a convincing explanation of the problems they're supposedly causing.
@BlueVeins Exactly!!!! Everyone I've ever worked with who was here illegally wanted nothing more than to work and send money home to their family so THEY COULD SURVIVE.

When white americans complain about illegal immigration, and tell people to speak English, it just shows they have no sense of irony.
