One can hardly move for unicorns here. Our national animal, of course. They tend to take the low ground, allowing the haggi the hill slopes where the heather is sweeter.

@ozgirl512 Easier for the haggi to follow. They work in clan groups, identifying the traditional route by the centuries old tartan. The unicorn graze the peat fields of the lower slopes, keeping the moose population down and drinking the whisky burns.
@helensusanswift now I do know a burn is a small stream, and if you have small streams of whisky running wild I'm definitely paying more attention on my next visit! 🤗
@helensusanswift I'm not really jealous! Reminds me of the old joke about the man falling into the vat of whisky at work, how he bravely fought off three attempts at rescue
@ozgirl512 I worked beside a scaffolder whose job included cleaning the inside of tanks (is that the right word?) in an Edinburgh brewery. He used to scrape the solidified beer and eat it between slices of bread -a beer sandwich. Yuk.
@helensusanswift tank or vat, I'm not sure tbh....re the impromptu sandwiche, it does sound gross but probably very healthy contain many of the B group vitamins and is the base of a few sandwiche spreads ...
@ozgirl512 There you go then. He was a happy man anyway. His firm collapsed, he was unemployed for a few months and joined the army. I think he's about to be deployed to Afghan with the Black Watch. No beer vats there, though.
@ozgirl512 It hasn't. It is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous places in the world: a bit like old Scotland, really. Nato was completely stupid entering in the first place, and expecting the Afghan people to welcome foreign armies - whoever made that decision 20 or 30 years ago should have read her/his history first.
@helensusanswift Osama who was supported by the Taliban which was created with the help of the Americans to fight the Russians there... Talk about the law of unintended consequences lol
@ozgirl512 Afghan seems to be like that. Kill one head of the Hydra and more spring up. The best plan seems to be not to interfere in other countries - how simple is that? Yet how hard a law it is for stupid governments to follow.
@ozgirl512 Forced marriages seldom do. Creating a nation out of disparate parts is never a good idea. Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, maybe even Spain and the UK - strange bedfellows indeed.
