I Found Out Today Why My Neighbors Moved And Sold Their House So Cheap….

probably got a lot less than they paid for it 20 years ago. About $105,000 and it was a 3-bedroom brick. Homes in this area are going for $190-$210 thousand. I saw another neighbor and talked to her about it. She told me that the wife went to stay in a residential care home & the man had lived there by himself for 2 years. He got tired of dealing with the rattlesnakes and the mice that were getting into the house. The people who bought the house had to tear Sheetrock out of the walls to get the rattlesnakes. Now my mind is wandering and thinking “How many of those rattlesnakes left the house before they got caught??? . And how many rattlesnakes were breeding in his house and overgrown flower beds and yard?” I never go outside after dark without carrying a flashlight as it is since I heard of man getting bit by a copperhead in another city in the next county for walking out in his yard after dark. They said that house was pure filth inside, hoarding etc. I walked by one time about 10 years ago and the garage door was open and it smelled like a garbage dump. I am going to put some bait out for mice outside the house and inside the garage in case the mice start coming inside in cold weather. There is a kind that won’t poison cats or dogs etc. but it’ll definitely get the rodents.

That is scary. I couldn't envision having snakes of any kind in the house.

@Musicman I used to have nightmares about venomous snakes every spring after my sister got bit by a copperhead. I still have snake nightmares even today. I didn’t even need a fresh reason to have them either. It almost makes me paranoid to think about. I have talked to Eli numerous times about not running outside in the dark and walking around without a flashlight. Not to pick up anything flat laying around in the yard or car lot without using a hoe or shovel to turn it over first. Not. To stick his hands in tall grass or whatever to clean out a flowerbed etc. without going over it with a rake first. And if hears buzzing on the ground etc. it’s probably a rattlesnake and not a bee.

@cherokeepatti Those are very wise words of wisdom.

@Musicman everyone I know that got snake bit was busy doing chores when it happened. I had my own encounter with a rattlesnake when I was doing chores one time.

@cherokeepatti Oh my gosh 😳 I can't even envision that. What did you do?

@Musicman I stopped what I was doing and went inside and had lunch and didn’t come back outside to finish the job until a couple hours later. I had been picking up discarded boards from a tall pile in the backyard and burning them in a burn barrel. Every board had huge black widow spiders on them, several on each board and I would smash each spider and turn the boards over to look at every side before picking them up and carrying them to the burn barrel. I got down to about a foot of boards and heard a buzzing when I would pick up a board with the hoe. Set it back down, the buzzing stopped. Did it 3 times and decided to quit for awhile. It was gone when I came back to finish everything. The previous tenant had left a huge amount of chicken pens in the back yard that needed to be torn down and the boards got piled up. We moved in and I spent about 2 months doing things around the house, painting etc. (Because of cheap rent) and then took care of the boards etc. I didn’t want snakes to get up in the pile but it was already too late. It was in a rural area.

@Musicman When we left Las Vegas and were driving to L.A.through the high desert the car overheated. Ray got out and got the gallons of water that I told him to put in the trunk of the car to cool the engine down. I opened my door to get some fresh air and heard a buzzing near the road. Apparently a rattlesnake. Had to sit inside the car with the doors closed and my window didn’t roll down very far either. Good thing we got ice in the ice chest to cool me down with. Anyway rattlesnakes buzz and sound like a bee. Same sound I heard under those boards.

@cherokeepatti Personally I think snakes are the reason God invented guns.

@Musicman I’d be letting the king snakes and some of the others live. They help keep the rodent population down.

@Musicman every drug or treatment has skyrocketed since they passed the bill that everyone get insurance. These pharmaceutical companies are taking advantage of that and jacked up the prices to outrageous prices.
