To my young earth peeps: If Dinosaurs existed alongside man in the bible, how come we don't hear about them?

There are countless references to goats and donkeys and lions and vultures but no dinosaurs.
Surely animals as awe-inspiring and titanic as Dinosaurs would have attracted a lot of attention. I mean, who's going to talk about the strength of a lion when T. rex is roaming the land?

And i know some of you are just itching to respond with Leviathan and Behemoth but even if we're supposing those were describing real animals rather than one-off elemental forces of earth and water, the descriptions simply do not correlate to dinosaurs.

The pictorial language expressed in Genesis, I actually understand, and the themes it is portraying.
When it was written dynosaurs had not been discovered, otherwise I suspect they would have popped a few in.

Had Genesis been written today, no doubt it would started with fourteen pages of vector calculus, some references to Quantum Electrodynamics , and a bit of General Relativity thrown in. Not accessible to most of us, and probable wrong.

Stick to the themes it paints.
@peterlee

Are you saying the reason dinosaurs aren't in the bible is because they people who wrote those books never knew dinosaurs existed?
Because yeah, that's pretty much my point.

@Pikachu The Bible is not a scientific textbook.

But will guide you on your relationship with God, and how He reaches out to you.

If you want to know more about Jesus and Christianity, I recommend an Alpha course to you. Alpha USA exists. You can find it on line.
@peterlee

But if i'm meant to trust the bible as a guide to anything, shouldn't it first be found to be reliable in what it says?
peterlee · M
@Pikachu Just read Rev 3.20, and accept the challenge.. I did, it changed my life!

I do not believe in the Bible, but in Jesus Christ , son of God, saviour.

You are getting yourself hung up on one verse, which you quote out of context.
‘ All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for re proof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.

Notice it does not say you have to belief in the Bible as.a set of facts!

You are not a Christian teacher, find one to help you. I’ve suggested an ALPHA course. Or read one of the Gospels and let it seep into you. Go to a Christian community who will welcome you.

Why not devote your time to helping others whilst you are searching. That will not save you, But working in a Food Bank, a Hospice. , an. Aid worker in Gaza, in a night shelter,, with troubled students, might help you understand who your neighbour is. Love him.

Don’t waste time on here arguing. Get on with life. You are searching for God, He will find you.
@peterlee

....if you're receiving what you think you know about Christ from the Bible....then you need to know that the Bible is a reliable source.

Either the Bible is a reliable source or it is not. Saying "Well sure, it's not reliable facts but i do trust it for the things i believe about divinity" is a wildly inconsistent approach, imo

@Pikachu It is now Wikipedia, and needs to be treated with respect, inspired by God.

The Bible is like a jigsaw puzzle, with some of the pieces missing. Some fit together quite easily, some don’t. But you must not jam them together, otherwise you get a distorted picture. All the pieces belong there, so don’t through any away.

My faith is in a living God, not a book. And a lot of that involves prayer and relationships with people.,

Remember there were Christians before the New Testament was written down, and the definitive books were decided by Christian Councils.

Again I recommend an Alpha course to you.
@peterlee

Not sure where you think you're learning about the character of Jesus or God from if not from the Bible
peterlee · M
@Pikachu So you have a faith after all well done.
Yes, the character of Jesus is revealed in the Gospels. And a lovely summary of the character of God is in Nehemiah
Chapter nine. I found sixteen. Dwell on them.

Prayer!

If you want to know more about the early church, I recommend Lost Christianities by Bart D Ehrman., and The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels

As I say join an Alpha Course. I’m sorry I cannot help you further.
@peterlee

Sorry for the misunderstanding: No, i do not have faith.
peterlee · M
@Pikachu I suppose I should say you can find out about God through listening to preaching. But then that is Bible based anyway. Prayer is not.

The collects of Thomas Cranmer, largely preserved in the Book of Common Prayer , is a source of inspiration.
Christian’s don’t often exist in isolation. They are brought together to pray,,listen to the word of God,,spread our faith, renew our faith, gain support, and have community implications. It’s a complex package, inspired by God.
@peterlee

How would you suggest that praying is a reliable means by which to know what is true when people from many faith traditions pray and believe they find answers and insight in that way?
peterlee · M
@Pikachu Persistance.
@peterlee

...I think you know that wasn't a good answer...

If praying persistently was a reliable way to know what is true about god then not only would most people already have converged on the same god, the people who believe in the same god wouldn't have so much disagreement on what that god wants from whom and when.

This is really the underlying point i was making: Praying is not a connection to the outside. It only happens inside your head. There is nothing objective about the results of prayer.
peterlee · M
@Pikachu Yes, it was. That’s what we are told to do.

Align our will with the will of God, and be persistent.

Best wishes in your searching.
@peterlee

Right...so is a Muslim. In fact i would suggest the average practicing Muslim prays a lot more often....and yet their persistence doesn't seem to have got them to think Jesus is divine.

My intention is not to convince you that your belief in god is wrong but rather to teach you that the arguments your are presenting as evidence or instruction are not reliable or internally consistent.
peterlee · M
@Pikachu No, you are searching. You will find.
@peterlee

lol oh...ok. Cool👍
