That evolution has occurred is inescapable yet some creationists think that finding a living dinosaur would disprove evolution...well How?

For example, many people have searched for Mokele-mbembe; the supposed sauropod dinosaur living in the Congo.
But supposing someone did finally find Mokele-mbembe how would it somehow overturn the theory of evolution and an old earth?

Since the Bible doesn't indicate in any way the age of the heavens and earth YEC isn't compatible with it, so I can't answer your question. Sorry. New shoes.
@AkioTsukino

Well i wouldn't say that YEC isn't compatible with the bible, just that its assumptions are not necessarily laid out in the bible.
@Pikachu I disagree. See Genesis Chapter 1 on my website. Then we can discuss it if you like.

https://semmelweisreflex.com/scripture/genesis/chapter1.php
@AkioTsukino

I have read Genesis.
I would like to discuss it so please raise the points you feel preclude YEC
@Pikachu YEC isn't compatible because the language doesn't indicate YEC, the inaccurate traditional interpretation does. To sum up the wall of text below, Genesis 1:1 indicates the heavens, including the luminaries were created. At that point complete. The following 6 "days" or "periods" of creation were gradual increments over an indeterminate period of time.

In Genesis 1:3 there is a diffused light, gradually increasing until in later the source is visible through a swaddling band, apparently of dust and debris.

Genesis 1:5 gives a brief examination of the Hebrew word yohm for day meaning any period of time from a few hours to time indefinite.

There's more you can read the link. Which obviously I can't hyperlink here. Right now I'm responding to your first response in the Change My Mind thread. (DNA)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Genesis 1:1: The Hebrew verb consists of two different states. The perfect state indicates an action which is complete, whereas the imperfect state indicates a continuous or incomplete action.

The word bara, translated as created, is in the perfect state, which means that at this point the creation of the heavens and the Earth were completed. Later, as in verse 16 the Hebrew word asah, translated as made, is used, which is in the imperfect state, indicating continuous action. The heavens, including sun, moon, stars and Earth were created in verse 1 and an indeterminate time later they were being prepared for habitation, much the same as a bed is manufactured (complete) and made (continuous) afterwards.

Genesis 1:3 Here the Hebrew verb waiyomer (proceeded to say) is in the imperfect state indicating progressive action. This first chapter of Genesis has more than 40 cases of the imperfect state. The creative "days" were a gradual process of making Earth habitable.

The light was a diffused light which gradually grew in intensity. Some translations more clearly indicate the progressive action:

A Distinctive Translation of Genesis by J.W. Watts (1963): "Afterward God proceeded to say, 'Let there be light;' and gradually light came into existence."

Benjamin Wills Newton's translation (1888): "And God proceeded to say [future], Let Light become to be, and Light proceeded to become to be [future]."

The Hebrew word for light, ohr, is used. This distinguishes the light from the source of the light. Later, on the fourth "day" the Hebrew word maohr is used, signifying that the source of the light only becomes visible then through the swaddling band.

Genesis 1:5 Here the Hebrew word yohm translated day, indicates the daylight hours, but the term will be applied in the following verses to indicate various lengths of time. The word is used to describe any period of time from a few hours to thousands of years. (Zechariah 14:8; Proverbs 25:13; Psalm 90:4; Isaiah 49:8; Matthew 10:15)

The terms evening and morning are metaphoric. At this point there are no witnesses on Earth to a literal night and day, but there are witnesses in heaven. (Job 38:4, 7) The evening symbolizes the period of time in which the events unfolding was indiscernible to the angels in heaven. The morning symbolizes the period in which the angels could distinguish what had been accomplished. (Proverbs 4:18)
@AkioTsukino

Are we talking at cross purposes here? Maybe there has been a misunderstanding.

Is your position that the bible precludes YEC or that it can accommodate YEC?
@Pikachu It precludes it. YEC isn't compatible with the Bible. YEC is a grossly inaccurate interpretation of the Biblical creation account. Bad theology.
@AkioTsukino

Well i'd agree that YEC isn't a necessary interpretation of the bible, i'm not seeing which part of your post precludes that interpretation...
@Pikachu I don't understand. Keep in mind, I don't follow or have any real interest in traditional mainstream Christian doctrine or theology unless it's relevant to my own interest, namely, the Bible. YEC in a nutshell is the idea that the age of the heavens and earth are only 6,000 years old. You can't do that. It isn't a question of whether or not it's necessary it's a question of is it compatible.

Did you read the post? I don't even know what post you're talking about. I'm used to a chronological listing of posts within a thread. These are a jumbled mess like someone shuffled them and I have to dig through. And then there's two threads where you and I are discussing this same topic. I follow the notifications. When one comes up I go to it. I have no idea which thread. I've got 5 tabs up. Multiple discussions on a variety of subjects. Every time I post a response I have anywhere from 1 to who knows how many responses to answer.

I don't know what to tell you. Read the post I made in response to where you said you read Genesis.

Good luck.
@AkioTsukino

lol are you new to SW? I can understand that it can get a bit confusing with the notifications. Sometimes it's easier to just open the thread you want and then go through until you find the latest response.
Like your "I Believe We Were Created: Change My Mind" thread. Go check that out and hit me up with your response there.

As for this thread, i just can't see based on your your point by point analysis of Genesis how YEC is precluded by the bible.
Maybe i'm just not seeing your point. Let's start with your number one reason why a YEC interpretation is not compatible with what Genesis says.
@Pikachu
Let's start with your number one reason why a YEC interpretation is not compatible with what Genesis says.
It helps me a great deal if you quote the relevant portion you want me to respond to. That way I don't have to guess.
@AkioTsukino

Sadly there's not really a relevant portion for me to quote.
I asked why YEC was not compatible with the bible and you posted a wall of text which did not seem to me to make that case.

So i'm asking you to narrow it down to what you think is the BEST example of why YEC is incompatible with the bible.
@Pikachu Sorry. My bad. We were at cross purposes. Well, more like I got into too much of a hurry and screwed it up. I'll edit the post.
@AkioTsukino

No worries. It's peripheral to the subject of this thread anyway.
