Right-wing forces are trying to discredit California because it is a highly progressive democratic state. I've lived in Cali for 50 years. We have our problems sure. But I think its the best state to live in the country. We have beautiful beaches, mountains, redwood forests, etc. The strongest economy, the most agriculture, etc. The list of California's benefits goes on and on.

@badminton Best answer!
Extremely high income taxes

Extremely high property costs

Extremely high cost of living

Extreme politics, such as trying to ban gas stoves for the environment, when gas stoves are probably one of the best options for humans, especially with California electric issues.

Extreme Laws (California is on the cutting edge of making new policies and laws and as with everything that's pushing some limits, some of them MIGHT be good, but others are quite stupid and even if you agree with 95% of them, there is still 5% where that makes no sense).

Basically they took the teeth out of stealing, so long as it's under $1,000 which had a lot of people go stealing $900 worth of stuff knowing that if they get caught basically nothing with happen to them.

Lots of homeless people with cities that are protecting the homeless but not protecting the land owners or those that are trying to do their job.

Wild fires

Corruption, such as the electrical lines and grids not even being pretend to be improved and over heating and causing issues, including power outages and some fires.

Corruption, such as a lack of water, and needing to limit the water resources, but then a company makes a sweet deal with a and suddenly their water rights go through the roof, screwing all those that did stuff legally.

Basically they're being pinched from every side ... where they're being taxed a ton, and those taxes are going to people trying to do extreme policies that help other people and hurt them...

And this is even for democrats, as California does some wild stuff...

Im in California. We have the highest gas tax in the entire country, one of the highest income tax rates, some of the highest sales and business taxes, and housing is roughly 120% more expensive than the U.S. average. So a house that costs around $1 million here could potentially be around $200,000 in some of the middle states. Our roads are crap, our car registration is a few hundred dollars a year. The list goes on. And yet during voting people keep voting for higher taxes 🤷 this November we have another prop to increase income tax again

@beermeplease hoping someway somehow Steve hilton becomes our new governor but I doubt it.
@TheWanderingMind i hope you guys do well. i've been to a san diego chargers game (we drove from palm springs on a whim to see it while on holidays) that was in 2011 on their first game against the vikings. enjoyed my time there

It's liberal. Trump-loving nazis in their red hats are afraid of it. I wouldn't want to live there because it's overpopulated and too expensive and just not worth it.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@hunkalove I am not denying that your facts are correct. But those same facts point to the facts that a lot of people DO want to live there. And a lot of them are high net worth people. Supposedly smart. Of course. If you think you couldnt compete there...........😷
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
You nailed it.. Americans are anti progress.. Except California and a few other places😷
SumKindaMunster · 56-60, M
The cost of living is, on average, 40-50% higher than the rest of the US.

You likely cannot afford to live there, unless you are richer than most Americans.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
Most who hate California have never been there. It is crowded and expensive because most residents actually want to be there.

Some squawk about moving to a "low tax" state. Then they get a property tax bill. Yowza! Red states consider tax payer giveaways to big business, football stadiums and cops with all the latest toys to be amenities.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
I wouldn't want to live there because I just think super unfriendly public commuter & pedestrian urban planning (In LA) and the main image I get when I think of it is the Mojave desert

Obviously, I know fuck all about California.
