so i'm watching episodes of "jail" which is based on county jails in america.....

....almost all of the of the detained are messed up on alcohol (perhaps meth too) and not one who is high on marijuana....my question to you america is when will you legalize weed in all states....and not be a hypocrite when it comes to booze?

when I was firefighter/emt, I'd seen just as many stoners upside down in the ditch or wrapped around a telephone poll as drunks...

In some ways, psychoactive drugs are worse than booze, it lulls people into a false sense of security more imperceptibly than alcohol.

@wildbill83 yes, any kind of drug can cause impairment including prescription medicine. the point of my post was to compare the "evils" of booze and weed....booze is far more destructive and harmful than weed and perhaps the states that weed is illegal in should make alcohol illegal.

Firstly, is the TV series fiction and if so, how accurate?

Secondly, wouldn't it be far better for the prisoners and the staff to have no drugs, including alcohol, in the place?

At least some of the inmates might be so thanks to previous use of legal or illegal narcotics; so need help to lose their addiction. Not be encouraged to remain addicts.

this is not in a prison. it's a show about people who have been arrested for whatever crime and are being detained before trial or released on bail. they are wasted before entering the facility...not getting wasted in it.

Even prohibition in the 1920s was a religious issue.

It's mostly the southern states and they're notoriously backwards and refuse common sense. Moonshine was part of their economy and those old ideas are getting really old and won't be alive much longer.
