Retirement Recommendations in the US of A

Financial experts said yesterday that if you want to retire this year, at age 65 all you need in your bank accounts is 1.46 million dollars.
In the United States, the median household income for 2025 is $83,592, which means that approximately 57.7% of households earn less than $83,592. This indicates that a significant portion of the population makes less than $80,000 per year.
(Actually 50 percent of all Americans earn less than $41,600 on average in a year. So 7.7% make between 42k - 80k.)
The average rent for an apartment is approximately $1,740 per month, or $20. 880 a year.
The average weekly grocery bill in the United States is approximately $270, or $14,040 a year.
The average monthly car payment in the U.S. is $537 for used cars, or $6,444 a year.
The average cost of gasoline people pay in a year varies, but the national average is approximately $2,448 per year, based on a monthly average of $204.
The average cost of full‑coverage car insurance in 2025 generally falls between about $2,100 and $2,600 per year.
The average U.S. electric bill is approximately $145 per month, or $1740.
The average gas bill in the U.S. is approximately $79.59 per month, with yearly costs averaging around $955.09.
All of which totals $48,607 on average for bare necessities, and doesn't account for The Median Income tax rates that will be taken by the government. Doesn't count health insurance, car or household repairs, cleaning products or clothing, school supplies for children, or any type of childcare, as well as many other daily expenses that are hard to avoid.
Want health insurance?
The average yearly cost of health insurance in 2025 is approximately:
$1,368 for a single person through employer-sponsored coverage.
$6,296 for a family through employer-sponsored coverage.
$5,964 for a single person on the ACA marketplace.
Want childcare?
The average cost of center-based care for an infant is approximately $13,254 per year.
Want to perform normal maintenance on you car without a surprise repair bill?
The average yearly cost of car maintenance is approximately $900 to $1,475.
Want to not be naked?
Women and girls: Average spending is around $545 per year.
Men and boys: Average spending is about $326 per year.
Households earning between $20,000 and $70,000: Spend approximately $1,700 annually on clothing.
50 percent of all Americans earn less than $41,600 on average in a year.
But yes, I'm sure that saving a suggested $17,000 a year (20%) of the median income of 85k is perfectly doable and "entirely possible"? And..., if you do manage to save $17,000 a year, it will only take you 88.24 years to hit 1.5 million dollars.

Are we great enough yet?
Are Americans and America really first?

Pfft!!!

Well presented. As much as politicians try to make happiness about "feelings" in the end it is about numbers.. Particularly if you dont have them. Nothing makes a person less happy than their family going without things they need...😷
