My take: Hard work still matters, but it’s no longer a guarantee. With rising costs, stagnant wages, and fewer safety nets, effort alone doesn’t always lead to success. Timing, access, and support play a bigger role than ever.

There are only so many hours in the week that you can work, only so msny qualifications and accolades that you can gather. The rest is largely down to the vagaries of the free market, personal connections, and a huge amount of luck.
