Haven't been around a flag hoisting (raising or lowering) in many years.
To answer the question, I'd stop to do so.

Regional Variations
“While "cross your heart" may be used colloquially in some regions, including the South, it is not the official term recognized in flag etiquette. The official guidelines specify that individuals should place their right hand over their heart, regardless of regional expressions.”

While it may be colloquially used, none the less it is used here in my part of the world by many of us! 🇺🇸 🙂
