I can’t ever remember 1 man taking up so much space in so many people’s heads . It’s truly baffling
DarthInvader · 36-40, M
@AthrillatheHunt Nah. The same thing happened during Biden, Obama, Kamala… you just forget once it’s your fave "villain" hogging the spotlight

TinyViolins · 31-35, M
There are too many parallels to Nazi Germany to feel even remotely comfortable with this administration. He certainly has a lot of people close to him that are using his appeal for their own agendas, but the same has been said of Hitler. Too much of what Trump says or does feels like a slippery slope towards authoritarianism, and it's very antithetical to the values of the country I know and love.

I do ultimately believe that Trump is a symptom of, rather than the cause of a lot of our social ills. Americans really need to do more to promote critical thinking skills and media literacy, as well as curbing the influence of online misinformation campaigns and political grifters.

For now, I'm holding out for midterm elections for people to realize that he's taking things too far. Who knows what kind of chicanery he'd try to employ to secure his own power after what he's trying to pull off in Texas and DC. If all else fails, my hope is that our armed services realize that they swore an oath to the US Constitution, not to a single man or his agenda.
JJones · 22-25, M
@TinyViolins Don't think you're getting midterms unfortunately 😅
DDonde · 31-35, M
I haven't really been affected yet, although my one friend has. I'm concerned about how things will play out for the country for sure. He has a very internally destabilizing effect.
JJones · 22-25, M
@DDonde Yeah, he's deteriorating and destroying the country at the same time.
Thanks.

I am actually looking at moving to the EU.
@Elessar No, not Bjarne Stroustrup, the C Pre-Processor.
SpudMuffin · 61-69, M
@Elessar oh yes, we remember that Galtieri chap!
JJones · 22-25, M
@SomeMichGuy Fair, European countries definitely aren't as bad currently but to be honest it might get back in Europe too and in the UK. But future problem I guess 😅

Asking as a Canadian how do you like Starmer? I see his poll numbers are way way down.

Meh, hasn't been good, but also hasn't been as horrible as it could be, at least not yet...

Thankfully some parts of the courts have been holding up and stopping some of the illegal BS.
JJones · 22-25, M
@sstronaut True, it can always get worse. But I'd say it already has gotten pretty horrible already.

@HoeBag It is very bad for our mental health, yes. But unfortunately ignoring it won't make it go away. So it's better to be informed so you can do what you can to take care of others and to be aware what will happen to you.

Flying the national flag is a subject of controversy in England. Why?
JJones · 22-25, M
@degraded This aged well. Burning the American flag is now illegal. How's your first amendment doing?
degraded · 22-25, F
@JJones Below you will see comment beginning with “they.” “They” implies that I am not American.

“Burning the American flag is now illegal.”

And? Trump is very patriotic. UK is very unpatriotic. What is your point? That they are unable to be sane and balanced? That we live in a world of extremes? Left and right, little twink. Left and right.
degraded · 22-25, F
They are fine. Your country, UK, is arresting their citizens for internet speech. You are not fine.

@Infamous607 Agreed. It's sad how bad things have gotten in almost 7 months
