Should America have more paid newborn leave time?

In Australia women are given up to a year paid leave with a gaurantee of a job at the same salary upon return. In america you get 6 weeks paid then have to use accrued time.
America treats its women poorly.

That’s up to the employer and employee, not the government in my opinion.

@FreeSpirit1 and the government requires certain citizen\employee rights. But not child care maternity or paternity time for a new born. So the government is supposed to gaurantee certain rights.
The point is only that there are other and in my oppinion better ways to look out for newborns employees & parents.
