Fun trivia about The Statue of Liberty

When it was gifted to the United States from France in 1886, it was a reddish copper color!! Over about 30 years, the copper went through an oxidation process and lost its copper color. Now the green we see is the result of that oxidation. 🫢🙂🗽

I did not know that!

It reminds me of those statues (yet I think they are bronze) that stay gold and shiny in some places because people rub them. Maybe this removes corrosion and skin oils act like varnish?
