Why is the United States such an expensive country to live in?

Housing, transportation, groceries, healthcare, university education and graduate school, etc. Granted, the US is not the only expensive country in the world. Rural areas and exurbs tend to be cheaper than the suburbs and urban areas. But even in formerly affordable areas the cost of living is skyrocketing. The northeast, northwest, and west coast US are the most expensive regions to live in. But even in the southeast, southwest, Midwest and south central the last two decades prices have gone up a lot. People are leaving the United States for other countries where the cost of living is more reasonable and the quality of life is more attainable now. My parents moved to the US in the late 1970s-early 1980s when the American dream was still alive and achievable. I feel the American dream of making yourself a prosperous life and not overworking oneself is dying.

it's not much different than anywhere else, all depends on income, where you live and how you want to live how many kids, i have none, so i have more money to spend, also depends on what health care you have, i have ssi medicare, plus my former employer, what ssi does not pay, they pay , jobs are everywhere, people don't want to work, the factory i retired from, had to close a few sections, because they coundn't get help to work, job payed around 50k, it's expensive here if you make it, plus fn welfare rats get things free, and fn immigrants too

@oldguy73 How do welfare claimants and immigrants getting "things free" increase the cost of living?
oldguy73 · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl the money has to come from someplace? if a person who rents out houses, has to pay more in taxes, he passes the increase to his renters, ad the same with factories, and everything, can your bb brain head see that?? like so fn simple, money has to come from some fn place, duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh a immigrant gets money, it came from the govement, which came from taxes, wake up

@oldguy73 Or the rentier could just take a hit on his unearned profit.

Increasing the supply of resources such as housing or conusumable goods, increasing competition among suppliers, generally drives down their cost to the consumer, not increases it.
