Nope, they know exactly what they are supporting. And then half the country voted for a president like that...

SW-User
@NerdyPotato To be honest, it's obvious that Trump is an irrelevance. It's Musk who has the power. And that is FAR worse.
@NerdyPotato correction please, less than a third of the country voted for him 78/258 million registered voters.
NerdyPotato · M
@MarbleMarvel okay, non-voters also enabled this, but they didn't technically vote for it indeed.
@NerdyPotato enabled? Do you know the system works here?
NerdyPotato · M
@MarbleMarvel yes, the highest voor count determines the color of a state and all electors of each state then vote that color. Throwing your ballot in the trash means one vote for the majority party doesn't get compensated.
@NerdyPotato so you know the system from what you've read about it .. but you don't know what it's really like
NerdyPotato · M
@MarbleMarvel what is it really like? (Btw, obviously I'm talking about people who could vote but didn't bother to, not the victims of voter suppression.)
MethDozer · M
@NerdyPotato it doesn't even work that way. You're state is cut up into districts and each district has a count.
Lots of people live in districts and states where your vote is irrelevant and does nothing either way. Blaming non-voters in Presidential elections is kind tired old BS.

@NerdyPotato A lot of nonvoters aren't being complacent, they simply know their vote doesn't matter. Millions of people voted third party, but third party will never get an electoral college vote because that's how the system works. So didn't they throw their vote away? We're stuck in a bipartisan system because those in charge are infatuated and manipulated by money and power. There is no way around that for those of us that are slaves to the system or we're homeless and by default criminals, even though the system created this dynamic.
There is no winning for those of us that want democracy. Look what trump and his goons are doing now. Trying to rewrite the rules to accommodate them... Wtf am I supposed to do? I have no power. I have to work to feed my child and wait to see what human right is taken from us next.
Elon even said that the voting machines were easy to hack, so maybe trump didn't even get all those votes.
Do you see where I'm going with this ...?
The system is facked and the majority have no voice because evil is louder and greedier.
This is not a facking joke because you aren't American, this is scary and I'm sick of non-americans judging the situation from an ocean away.
If you aren't going to help, shoosh.

@MethDozer boom. And $20 he ignores what I wrote because I'm a woman.

@MarbleMarvel wow... You really have that low a view of me? 😲 You're so quick with baseless assumptions? I expected better of you...
Anyway, every vote does count. It may not change the majority of your district or state, but it gives a signal to politicians that not everyone agrees, and to fellow citizens who think their vote is irrelevant and doesn't make a difference they aren't alone in wanting change. Sure, in most states it wasn't going to alter the outcome this year, but it can set a change in motion.
Yeah, the two party system is bad, but you'll never get rid of it by withdrawing from democracy completely.

@NerdyPotato I'm just used to how I'm being treated in regards to my views as a woman. I'm American remember. And every time I post about it I get omitted from the conversation.
You're still assuming that politicians care about people. They care about money. That's it. This country was founded and built on murder and slavery. There is no democracy, only an illusion that sadly hasn't burst for the people that did vote for trump.

@MarbleMarvel yeah, the only way to change that is to speak up though... Like I said, a third party vote isn't going to put a third party in the Whitehouse in one or two elections. But when someone wins with 55% vs 45% of casted votes, it goes to their head. Winning with 45% vs 40% vs 15% paints a vastly different picture. And judging by the number of complaints about the two party system, that should be possible if everyone votes whether they stand a chance of their choice winning or not.
@MarbleMarvel truth
@NerdyPotato it doesn't work that way though. A vote only counts as a suggestion to how the electoral college votes. Those votes are easily manipulated and bought. They are not for or about the people at all.
I've been saying it for 20 years... A vote goes into the slave suggestion box.

@pripyatamusementpark people don't get it. They think they can read up on how it works and that's how it works. But that's not the case when you're actually here

@MarbleMarvel money comes from people though. The 1% can't survive without the other 99% working for them. Sure they don't give a lot about us, but they need us much more than we need them and that makes us powerful if enough people realize that.
Besides, what other option is there? Just give up your vote, let go of even the pretence of a democracy and make it officially and openly an oligarchy? Because that's what it is now. Is this better than the last decades?

@NerdyPotato that 1% owns the military, what more do you need to know? A couple hundred million Americans know that their government will turn on them. If anything, that's what they're hoping for, so they can finally put us all in our place, as traitors.
Come on over and try starting a fire, all Americans know what happens when you do that. And what about the millions of people that believe in maga? My neighbors. You want me to go get them? Alone with my child?
They created a society to manipulate. America is young in comparison to other countries. We clearly haven't gotten it all figured out. But you really aren't grasping that votes don't really matter. And that's creating an illusion, that we have a voice. Maybe 20 years ago we were trying.
But tbh, judge however you want. Watch innocent people burn because we asked for it whatever. I asked for it.

@MarbleMarvel
And as for the risks: that's why votes are anonymous. Maybe you're right and voting doesn't matter. I'm not sure... I only know that doing nothing guarantees that the 1% will do what they want as opposed to that being likely.
Anyway, it's only speculation now anyway. The past election can't be changed anymore and there probably won't be any future ones, at least not like we knew them. Good luck with the situation and stay safe... 🫂

I didn't say that and I won't stand by watching people burn. And as for the risks: that's why votes are anonymous. Maybe you're right and voting doesn't matter. I'm not sure... I only know that doing nothing guarantees that the 1% will do what they want as opposed to that being likely.

@NerdyPotato thank you and thank you for talking to me respectfully
