I wouldn't call it an obsession , nor would I call it normal. I would say it was a sign of the times and a necessity in order for us to to streamline our Communications so that we can keep up with the Leaps and Bounds of those of Technology.

I'd have to agree, so my next question would be, are acronyms the next language?
Jayciedubb56-60, M
@calicuz I don't know if they'll replace the entire language but yes it's coming I think. I mean I was in the Army for 6 years and acronyms are a lot of the military vocabulary and I've been for as long as we've had an army probably. Did you know the Jeep is an acronym? Well it's a melted acronym I guess I'd call it. Started off his GP meaning general purpose, as the jeep was a general purpose vehicle. Just like the Hummer came from Humvee which is actually hmmwv which stands for highly mobile multipurpose wheeled vehicle.

I don't really mind the acronyms taking over for sentences or phrases or whatever but what bothers me is that they may be replacing emotions too. A few years ago I was on an elevator and a handful of teenage boys walked on and they were a friendly get someone colorful conversation and one of them came up with some hyperbole about something and the other one acknowledged the humor in it by saying LOL. Not actually doing it. Just saying it . and the kid who had the hyperbole felt gratified as if the guy really did laugh out loud.
