US only offers freedom to rich white cis people especially rich white cis men.
SW-User
@Gloomy is that why so many immigrants move there?
Gloomy · F
@SW-User People may choose to immigrate for a variety of reasons, such as employment opportunities, to escape a violent conflict, environmental factors or to reunite with family. Many don't feel they have a choice while the US presents itself as a "free country" their system produces inequality. It also depends on ones definition of freedom. Also are immigrants really treated well?

@Gloomy You said the following:

US only offers freedom to rich white cis people especially rich white cis men.

Now, you seem to be acknowledging that this is not the case because you said one of the reasons people move to the U.S is "employment opportunities." If they are moving there for better jobs and more money, how can you claim the U.S only offers freedom to rich straight white people, especially men? What about all the straight white men who are poor? Have you considered that there's non-white immigrants who earn more?

I would say that wealth does divide us, but race, sex, and sexuality are irrelevant...especially when we take into consideration that you used the word "only", not most.

Also are immigrants really treated well?

Do you know any immigrants who've been treated badly?

People don't move to places where they think there's "less freedom", so when compared to the countries these individuals are coming from I think we can conclude that the U.S is a relatively free place, and that your race, gender, and sexuality do not diminish your freedoms.

@SW-User It's more that the American Dream is still being sold as something real. People migrate not because they want to but because they have to and end up in bad working conditions being exploited. The US does not guarantee social safety.
White men who are poor suffer as well. You can fall down the ladder in a very short period of time just for losing your job.
Racial profiling through the police is an issue so no race does unfortunately still matter when it comes to how people are being treated and percieved. Transphobic bills are being passed and conservatives keep pushing to abloish same sex marriage rights so not even these are guaranteed rights.

Again it's more coercion than a choice to move to the US.

@Gloomy like her TLDR post is just soup in comparsion. No beat, overlong sentences and feels like it lacks originality.
Seems mostly stolen from prager u.

The main thing is the lack of beat🤷‍♀️. Just reads in the same way as someone on DXM talks.

@Gloomy lol, no one is being coerced into leaving their country. People move there because they know they will have more freedom, more security, and better jobs.

Your argument *may* be that the U.S needs to improve, or that it has faults, but you're framing it really badly. I think you need to acknowledge that the U.S is better than most countries, in particular ones that people choose to leave because they aren't free. "American Dream" isn’t the point, as the country is, in reality, a preferable place to live for most of the immigrants who move there.

Also if you're an immigrant earning minimum wage, you're no more being exploited than your average American citizen. Instead of obsessing over narratives, why don't you consider that most people in the U.S are essentially in the same position?
Gloomy · F
@SW-User Your country being unstable, not having a functioning government due to US interventions and its global hegemony leading to not having any perspectives for your future... how is, leaving considering these circumstances, a free decision?

It might be a preferable place but ends up being shitty as well. I am aware that most people in the US are being exploited but you brought up immigration so I chose to focus on this topic.
SW-User
@Gloomy What U.S interventions? You are aware that immigrants can come from anywhere, right? Even "non-white" covers a very vast group of people.

It's a "free decision" if *you* are making it, and it's what *you* would like. Would you say that people who came to the U.S in unfavorable circumstances and made a success of themselves didn't make a free decision? That it wasn't their choice and that it didn't benefit them greatly?

I brought up immigration because it negates your view that only rich white straight people (especially men) are free in the U.S. Clearly, most people are free and those moving there know that. It isn't "shitty" when you compare it to most other places, including some European countries.

It doesn't have to be a warzone to be less desirable than the U.S lol.
Gloomy · F
@SW-User I provided a link at the beginning of the chat.

Those who came to the US in unfavourable circumstances didn't make a free decision. Them having success and later not regretting having to come there is something different.

What European countries? Also again freedom has different definitions. Freedom of speech and of movement within the US? Sure but freedom is more than that.
