What should be the 51st state of USA? 馃嚭馃嚫

I still think it should be Canada (especially since half of Canada's population lives below most of IS northern boarder with Canada...

But this guy seems to have a different opinion...

what the hell has canada done to you to SUGGEST such a thing! :)
(I'm an amercian by the way)
ViperM
@Pretzel A majority of them live south of Washington State and Maine's northern border lol

Since the US and Canada agreed in the 49th parallel in the west... maybe we should just agree to the 49th parallel all the way across and north of there is Canada.

Currently the 49th parallel agreement

The 49th Parallel, all the way across

72% of Canadians live south of the 49th Parallel... and a lot of them live South of Seattle.
(PS Canadians, don't worry, I'm just being a goof ball)

I thought it might be Puerto Rico, though I鈥檓 not sure if they want that.
ViperM
@bijouxbroussard currently they get almost all the benefits (no one directly in Congress for them) without having to pay federal income tax.

If you gave States citizens those options, I think a lot of States might say we don't want someone in Congress we'd rather keep our federal income taxes.
I think we should give Puerto Rico state status. It's already a territory, which means they pay taxes, but they don't get representation. Seems to me we fought somebody over that a long time ago...
I believe we have offered it and they have voted it down six times...

They pay most federal taxes, BUT not federal income taxes (which is the huge one).

Yeah, but the District of Columbia pays a hell lot more including Federal Income and they are literally hosting Congress and the White House, and have no official representation.
DC residents pay the highest per-capita federal income taxes in the US. In total, DC residents pay more in total federal income tax than residents of 22 other states, but have no say over how those tax dollars are spent.
Okay, and I support them being a state as well. What's your point?
