Do you think the united states of america is a racist country?

I want your opinion. I think that it has some racist mechanism with immigrations, law enforcement, and justice system but overall I will say no because you can be whatever it is you want to be in the united states.

There is still a good amount of institutional racism to tackle and personal racism to educate out of the public.

It's more of a sliding scale than a yes/no response.

In a general sense we have been trending towards less racism. Given metrics of number of racist people/ incidents that has been gradually improving over time. Given metrics of severity of racist action and vocalness of racists, we are better than the days following the Civil rights act, but i think worse than the 90s and early 00s.

What happened? The number of racist people engaging in subtle racism that is harder to see had been shrinking. Then we started seeing an upswell of minority representatives in office. Fewer racist voters meant more chances to get elected.

Being elected to office is VERY visible and threatens the sensibility of people who are still racist. So they grow more vocal and lash out more. The increased noise and optics makes it seem like racism is on the rise again, but it is a vocal minority.

The US has not yet solved racism. We've still got problems. But in the long view we've made good progress. We just have to keep up the good fight so that the actual racists don't take us backwards. We have to stand our ground and keep fighting for that brighter future.
