I love it when you have to select language on a video game & it shows American flag

Gumba1000 · M
It's got to. Americans don't remember other flags. Americans also call Imperial Measurements, American, but they aren't.

@ninalanyon Sorry - I mis-read my converter!

@BluntSm0ker You didn't answer the question, how were British forces going to get to those countries? Britain went to war with Germany over the invasion of Poland, therefore helped Poland.
Gumba1000 · M
@BluntSm0ker How was what you wrote a fiction? Because Britain was the head of an empire then. In total war, conscription raised armies of most of the male populations. The British empire had the largest population on the planet, therefore the largest army. You said of Hitler concentrated all his forces on Britain, he'd have won in a month. I just pointed out to you that the British empire fought Hitler and the Axis for an entire year alone. The Battle Of Britain was not a little shitty dog battle, it lasted months. The longest aerial battle in history, if you count it all at once. No other air force resisted the Luftwaffe as much. You said Britain had no thanks, we did.

You said Britain was too chicken to help it's allies, like I said, we fought a world war for them. What did USA do between 1939 and 1941? Oh yes, too chicken to join the war.

There was no "Eastern Bloc" until after World War Two, and your (BS') later remark about British cowardice then laughing about it, is as wrong as it is offensive.

Although Prime Minister Chamberlain had tried to appease Hitler, it was Britain who declared war on Nazi Germany after Hitler disregarded that, having already put his expansionist invasion plans in motion.

The USA originally tried to stay neutral, thinking it merely a European argument, until dragged into it when her Pacific island was attacked by the Japanese (who had already tried to invade China, at the time still a monarchy). However, once fighting, she did prove a very powerful and valuable ally against both the Germans and the Japanese.

The "Eastern Bloc" as the Soviet-controlled territories became called, was a carve-up after the Nazis had been defeated, by Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin. All it achieved was cementing what by then the USSR (our allies after Hitler tried to invade what had been his ally) had done: securing those countries by force, with no intention of returning them to their own people. Britain and the USA knew that would happen but after several years of war, were unable to prevent what Winston Churchill graphically described as "an iron curtain descending across Europe" - for the next roughly 50 years, as it turned out.

BS: Before you try mocking another contributor's country you know little if anything about, it might help to know the major points of 20C European and Asian history. Were you not taught them at school?

@ArishMell I know what the Eastern Bloc was Arish, I just wanted to describe the area in one phrase.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Gumba1000 Ah, I see. Less misleading to have used "European" rather than "bloc" because apart from the occasional empires over time, none of the many Continental European nations formed blocs as such until after WW2.
