A New National Anthem for the United States - Arise! Arise! by Jean Rohe

Atlantic and Pacific flow
Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico
The land between sustains us all
To cherish it, our tireless call

(Chorus)
Arise! Arise!
I see the future in your eyes
To a more perfect union we aspire
And lift our voices from the fire

We reached these shores from many lands
We came with hungry hearts and hands
Some came by force and some by will
At the auction block, or the darkened mill

(Chorus)

We died in your fields and your factories
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
With an old coat hanger in a room somewhere
A trail of tears, an electric chair

(Chorus)

Our great responsibility
To be guardians of our liberty
Till tyrants bow to the people’s dream
And justice flows like a mighty stream

(Chorus)

I long for the day when America will be deserving of this anthem.

I think this is more appropriate especially since Trump put religious zealout liars on the highest court.

I like this. I also like America The Beautiful. Either one should replace the current anthem.
The current Anthem is fine with me. Keep longing, Bloomsie.
@LamontCranston The current one isn't even about the United States. It's just about the flag. You probably wish we sung the third verse about the "hireling and slave."
I’d wish I knew what coward downvoted this. It’s an honest, but positive song.

@bijouxbroussard I assume it was the guy below who says he prefers the current one. The Star Spangled Banner isn’t even about the US (it’s about the flag), and the melody is an English drinking song (To Anacreon in Heaven) that most people can’t sing.
@bijouxbroussard It was the guy whose screen name is the mother in "Little Women."
@LeopoldBloom Ah. Figures. 🤨

I like it. It doesn't sweep our history under the rug but also urges us to continue to aspire to be better.
Absolutely perfect. I’m sending this to some friends.

@MarmeeMarch It figures you'd prefer the one that mentions "hireling and slave."

@MarmeeMarch You know, people on SW complain about me all the time, but you're the only one who complains because I don't respond fast enough for your liking.
