I Live In the Usa

I may not agree with everything our military does - not by a long shot - but you've got to respect a group of people who knowingly risk their lives and dive headfirst into horror that leaves marks deep enough to linger for a lifetime, all for the sake of other people. They selflessly fight and suffer and sometimes die for something bigger than themselves. Happy veteran's day, soldiers.

They volunteer to defend their country - brave and honourable behaviour - then get spent like loose dimes on expanding the American Empire.

I don't see it quite as doom and gloom as that, but I do agree that the people in charge are way too quick to spend our soldier's lives in situations where there are alternatives. If there's ever a draft, and THEIR kids are suddenly eligible to be drafted, then all of a sudden they'll change their tune - it won't be some distant conflict anymore, the violence and the horror and the fear of losing loved ones will become real to them.

Well not being american (and being a historian) I probably take a dimmer view of it: and you're absolutely right, if they ever introduced a draft that didnt let all the elite's kids get excluded, then wars would suddenly become serious and scarce.
