Canals in the UK are only 3 feet deep and don't have strong currents. There's literally nothing stopping you from standing up. Who believes this crap?

Canals were built during the industrial revolution. They were lined with several feet of thick clay or 'puddling' which is to make them water tight. Whilst most canals are only three or four feet deep, that clay can suck you deeper and prevent you from being able to move or get out.
