Askance by many, I understand.

He should resign

"The UK" does not view him, or anyone else.

People within the UK have their own views, for or against, but there is no "UK view".

He has become widely unpopular even among Labour MPs, but it's hard to discern any real reason.

He seems to be rather indecisive in domestic politics, seen as not really grasping very difficult nettles, but he is a lot stronger internationally and don't think any potential rivals for Prime Minister ship have as much experience in that as Sir Kier does.

@peterlee That affected me, as a pensioner, but I can understand why they tried to end the allowance.

The problem is once a government sets some benefit, which is paid for from tax revenues not the government, it is extremely hard for it or anyone subsequent one to remove it.

(I think a better way would be to raise the income-tax threshold on pensions.)

@ArishMell They should have not committed to not raising income tax.

Income tax affects the wealthy more.

The country would have swallowed 1p for the National Health. 1p for increased defence spending.

@peterlee I agree there, and I think their increasing taxes on businesses a huge mistake. A better way to tax business would be to use thresholds, although that complicates things.

For we also do need the entire tax system simplifying. Apparently Britain's tax rules are among the world's most complicated, likely because they have grown piecemeal over a very long time.

We need a stronger grip on foreign companies operating in the UK, too. Politicians of all partries worship something they call "foreign investment" or "inward investment" without spotting that the so-called investors are not investing in Britain for Britain, but against Britain.

He must go.

There is no unified view of 'the UK' on this man.
