After the recent by-election in South Wales I thought I'd ask SW what they thought of Sir Keir Stammer.

Labour have lost their strongest seat in Britain, well it was when I was a boy, I never thought in my lifetime a Labour candidate would lose Caerphilly, anybody who had the Labour ticket would win Caerphilly only time changes.

Just tick one of the three boxes, I need to have your opinions there's no need to explain who you are or why you have come to this opinion just simply tick one of the three boxes, you have only one vote.

Our polling station is now open.

He's a dedicated and authentic public servant and a competent administrator. The Labour manifesto was short on specifics and thoroughly unexciting (it certainly does not promise to "make Britain great again"). So far he and Labour have made reasonable progress on implementing their promises which will hopefully bear fruit by the end of this parliament. Unfortunately the British electorate show worrying signs of wanting another "charismatic" leader and simple solutions to complex problems. Now that Labour has apparently given up on trying to out-Reform Nigel Farage, I am reasonably optimistic about the possibility of a progressive alliance against populism and someone of note consistently holding Farage to account in a way that much of the media appears to be too scared of.

I actually saw Caerphilly as a decisive rejection of divisive populism, but then again I am an eternal optimist.

@SunshineGirl I am a local man living in Caerphilly the Plaid Cymru voters stayed loyal the Labour voters voted for the first time in a hundred years voted for different parties, Labour simply took Caerphilly for granted and finally the bubble burst, many of my neighbours and friends enjoyed South Wales premier holiday resort Porthcawl, Labour has destroyed it the Amusement Park Coney Beach has just closed, Sandy Bay Caravan Park closed some years ago the Labour controlled council closed it, a nearby caravan park Happy Valley is being down-graded Labour is responsible for all this Labour purchased the land Sandy Bay and Coney Beach for 1,100 houses to be built the people of Caerphilly decided.

The Senedd Elections in a few months time will put Plaid Cymru in control Labour has only themselves to blame the famous Red Wall Labour Red Wall will be no more we will boot them out you'll see.

There is rot the newspapers follow the current government's moves it's not good news coming out of Fleet Street it's news of forthcoming raids on Pensions, Inheritance, higher Income Tax, Increasing the Retirement ages, reducing Freedom of speech, Arresting peaceful protesters small wonder Sir Keir Stammer popularity is dropping.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@senghenydd We discussed the closure of the amusement beach before. The owners shut the attraction and decided to sell the land to local government. It was not a compulsory purchase.

As for the press following the current government's moves, most of those statements are pure speculation at the current time. It would be refreshing if the media focused on what the government is actually doing rather than mindlessly stirring fear and resentment.
senghenydd · M
@SunshineGirl Speculation, well these press reports are usually right the internet has problems there is a lot of fake news, they seem like pirate raids on everyone, bank accounts are to be checked over etc, we never had those speculations when the Tories were in power.

Labour purchased that land in Porthcawl I like rubbing their noses in it to be honest, I blame the Labour party and Bridgend Labour Council for the loss of Porthcawl as a holiday resort the Council were responsible for closing Sandy Bay caravan park, yes it has been mentioned before there's meetings on-going in Porthcawl trying to stop this development even at this stage, I was thinking of joining their group and might well do so in the future.
benJohnson99 · 18-21, M
Labour and Kier Starmer have not had the best year and the right wing press have had field day but think of the alternative an extreme right wing part waiting in the wings yes l mean reform who would cut taxes yes but public services would be decimated NHS included which would effect their core voters remember Farage has spoken in the past glowingly of private healthcare and large chunk of the UKs economic problems have been caused by Brexit and we know who championed that lie Farage and Johnson
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@benJohnson99 I hope this kind of thinking is widely held in your age group.
benJohnson99 · 18-21, M
@FreddieUK Yes sir it is let’s keep out this racist party
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
Obviously the press have the knives out because he's not 'one of us'. The Government have made some mis-steps which have played into the hands of the hard of thinking and I truly hope they avoid that in future. I reject the phrase 'make Britain strong again' as it is the kind of thinking that suggests some kind of superiority, is defeatest about who we are today and sounds too much like the Trump/ReformUK agenda. I would hate to have that road traveled by my beloved country.
senghenydd · M
@FreddieUK Make Britain Great Again well what I meant is put Britain on the right road by making all the right decisions etc.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@senghenydd That's good...I can be on board with that phrasing. 🙂
senghenydd · M
The Polling Station is now closed, I would like to thank everyone who took part, it shows the Prime minister not everyone is behind him, if he wishes to remain in power things must change.
Any PM will do as long as it’s not a Tory.
After 14 years the Tories left the country in one hell of a mess.
It wouldn’t matter who Labour have at the helm-it will take more than one Parliament to sort that out.
Has everyone forgotten how bad the Tories were?
But I won’t forgive Labour for going after we Pensioners.
It’s Plaid Cymru for me now…but if Labour lose Torfaen the world has gone mad.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales I'm pretty sure that if I was living in Wales now, I would be voting Plaid.
senghenydd · M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales I believe Labour will lose Torfaen and many more like Torfaen and Caerphilly the forthcoming elections for the Senedd will be a shock for many, Plaid Cymru will takeover maybe they should be given a chance they've waited long enough.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Starmer himself is just another over educated politician masquerading as a 'man of the people' under a Labour flag.

People don't want 'a man of the people'.
What they want is someone....ANYONE who can do more than talk to actually improve people's lives....without hindering someone else's.

If you're declaring every problem the 'fault' of the immigrant (Badenoch) or the fault of the voting system (Ed Davey) or the fault of the 'rules setters' (Nigel Farage) you can see how we got in this mess.

It's a sad fact that NONE of the MP'S in the Commons came up with a post Brexit plan if the result didn't go for Remain
benJohnson99 · 18-21, M
@FreddieUK Yes a man better suited to the Victorian era
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@FreddieUK and THAT'S the worry !

Even now i wouldn't put it past either him or them, that they're biding their time until the opportunity presents itself again.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@benJohnson99 and he's building himself a mini empire with his own agenda somewhere in the shadows you can be sure.
I am a Canadian and as an outsider he seems like a Tory who got lost.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow It's an understandable conclusion to come to, but actually the modern Conservatives have moved much further to the right and are now extremely incompetent.
@FreddieUK Same with our Tories.

Pierre Polievre seems to think being a Charlie Kirk, or Stephen Crowder debate bro is all that is required to be a PM.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow To be avoided at all costs.
Finchy · 41-45, M
He’s a handsome guy so I’d give him a chance lol
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
I try not to butt into other countries political leaders , we have our own .
senghenydd · M
Oh I'm not going commit I said I wouldn't.
Well, you tell me - when he failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile when he was the DPP
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@OriginalNedKelly Untrue. Check the facts.
England66 · 61-69, M
Which ever party is in leaves the country in a mess as long as they and their friends get richer
peterlee · M
Perhaps we should let Prince Andrew have a go 🤡
senghenydd · M
@peterlee I think Prince Andrew will be going abroad shortly, what about Princess Ann.
peterlee · M
@senghenydd Did not go to Oxford.
senghenydd · M
@peterlee She can hold the line, in fact do good job.
BlobbyMcBlobface · 100+, M
A twunt of the highest order.
Nimbus · M
At the rate he is going it's only a matter of time before he's replaced, most likely with someone of similar ineptitude.
