I have to wonder at the hypocisy...

Just how many of the Americans so outraged by Russia's use of torture in Ukraine were cheering when George W. Bush announced torture -- oh, pardon me, "enhanced interrogation" techniques that might lead to maiming or death -- were fine to use on Muslim detainees a few decades ago?

I think I heard once that the difference between man and animals is rationalization.
If you think about it, if you add the right amount of spin to anything you can get people to jump on board with it.
And apparently if you get enough people on board then all bets are off.

@Dainbramadge Sadly, that seems so very true.

The US should never have done that. To me it's 100% un-American to torture detainees. Abu Ghraib was a nightmare.

@markansas Just out of curiosity
@helenS i am a odd one . i do study history and most dont..

@markansas I see a deep connection between the fate of the ancient Roman republic (S.P.Q.R.) and today's American republic (U.S.A.).
Republics are not immortal.

Many of us Americans were outraged at that as well.

I am absolutely convinced that most Americans do not condone any mistreatment of prisoners. 🌷
It’s a global superpower thing. Life is cheaper in these places. None of them can be trusted.

Unfortunately you have a powerful point here. After learning what Bush had allowed in Abu Ghraib etc, and the damage that did to US world standing, and the future risks it raised for US soldiers, I thought Bush would go down as the worst president in the last 100 years.

Whether it's right or wrong depends on who's saying it. And I'm not just referring to this one statement
that is when i changed party and became a democrat ..

Maybe they are jealous they didn't think of these tactics first
