South Korea finally bans the consumption of canines

Though the ban will not take effect until 2027.
The parliament passed the legislation 208 votes to zero.
Some dog farmers plan to contest the ban.

It's interesting how dogs are seen one way and other animals are seen differently. Pigs are more intelligent than dogs and can be domesticated yet about 125 million a year are slaughtered in the U.S. with most living in pretty horrific conditions. Those dogs are bred for food too. Not sure where the big difference lies.
As a vegetarian, I never understood why meat eaters care if others eat dogs. Meat is meat. Either it’s all okay or it’s all bad.
Don’t believe I’ve ever seen PETA or anyone else protesting that.. 🤔

Humane Society International called the legislation's passage "history in the making".
"I never thought I would see in my lifetime a ban on the cruel dog meat industry in South Korea, but this historic win for animals is testament to the passion and determination of our animal protection movement," said Jung Ah Chae, executive director of HSI's Korea office.
@Gusman first I’d heard of it.
Was totally unaware it was such a big thing legislation was needed 😑
