Having fun with family origins.

I looked up where my wife's family name comes from and found out it is a tiny bit of Scotland made famous by Paul McCartney. I had never realised Kintyre was where her family name arose. Paul McCartney wrote the Mull of Kintyre which is on the west end of the Kintyre peninsula.

I've been researching family history for 30 years. Dig deep and have some fun discovering who lived before you and your wife.

@hippyjoe1955 Once we hook up with the English royal family, we go way back. Other lines start fading in the 1600's. I have two major brick walls in 1750 and 1815.

@exexec I have the same problem on my side. There is written record of the family name from 1260 Germany but there is absolutely no way to trace beyond 1750; On my mom's side we have pictures of my great great grandfather. My grandfather as a young man was standing with his dad and his granddad in the family home in Wales. Very clear picture. They did love to dress up for a picture taking.

@hippyjoe1955 Yes, those old photos are priceless. I have a lot from my wife's family and a few from my family, including great-grandparents.

Me- West Kilbride, and Hunterston Castle. However, I am related to most of the Scots clans, so villages all throughout Scotland. My wife is a Kerr, among her Irish and German ancestors.

My cousin's late wife tried tracing our family but I don't think she was able to find anything far back in the 19C!

@Burke17 Yes I was a child at the time but I remember the fuss it caused and still causes. The Arrow was a turkey. It was under powered and its avionics were pretty much obsolete before the thing got in the air. Then there was the huge cost involved. It was bankrupting the country and no one wanted to buy it. The Americans had their Dart in the air which was almost the same airframe.

@hippyjoe1955 Good summary, but many glamorize the Arrow even today.

@Burke17 Yeah lots of uninformed people out there. lol

If you go you’ll be less impressed. It’s a miserable rock where the locals are as hospitable as the weather.

@AdmiralPrune No intention of going there. Just interesting to find out where the family name arose. I assume there was a reason they left...... 😉
