Türkiye blocks Russian cruise ship from Istanbul port 🤣🤣🤣

Turkish authorities have denied a Russian cruise ship to dock at a port in Istanbul, forcing the vessel carrying 616 passengers to wait off the coast for hours before returning to the Black Sea.

The Astoria Grande, which arrived at Istanbul’s renowned Galataport on the evening of Nov. 19 to disembark passengers, remained anchored off Sarayburnu district for several hours after failing to receive approval from Turkish maritime authorities.

Following the prolonged delay, the cruise liner set sail back to the Russian city of Sochi, media reports said.

@RachelLia2003 Turkey is unlikely to obey any order from Mr. Trump, even if he tried it.

We will not know the reason for the bar unless Turkey publishes it, but I suggest the country might have been trying to show at least some sense of neutrality, if not quiet support for Ukraine.

@ArishMell At this point in time US/EU needs Turkey more than they need us. The deal is that they leave us access to the Bosporus in exchange for protection from Russia. Russia right now isn't much of a credible military threat to Erdogan. Look at Syria...

@Elessar No, I don't think Russia is any threat to Erdogan at all. If anything their relations are fairly warm. Turkey is an EU member, but like Hungary, not a very reliable one.

@ArishMell Turkey isn't yet* an EU member, they're a NATO one though. And I guess so long as they have Erdogan they have no chance of getting in the union, it would be indeed another Hungary

@RachelLia2003 A NATO member, anyway. But it's a rough relationship. Turkey was denied the F-35 program. They took the drone route before the US did, though.
