Putin signs law to mobilize 300,000 Russian men of fighting age

To join the front line as cannon fodder for the war against Ukraine. Within minutes Google searches for one way plane tickets out of Russia to the few remaining Russian friendly destinations including Tel Aviv jump 400%. Airline seat prices also sky rocket.

The law has also been changed to make avoiding conscription a crime punishable by jail time.

There is something very rotten in Moscow, and it's Putin and his regime. Bottom line is that he can't risk his regular military - his regular army. He has just enough trained and equipped soldiers to protect his nation, not enough to fight a war on foreign soil. He can defend his nation, he cannot, as he has already proven, project his might beyond the borders of Russia.

His military and its command structure is old, inexperienced and worn, and not prepared to fight a war. His equipment and armament are outdated and the few modern pieces of war fighting machinery they possess are stretched beyond their capabilities, low in numbers and not well maintained.

He could fight a short, limited campaign and now that his military has been stopped and in some places routed, he has no choice but to attempt to use a few hundred thousand as cannon fodder hoping sheer numbers will turn the tide. It won't work, but he will try - if he doesn't, it is over for him. His choice is to fight and come up with some sort of win, or die... literally, die.

Right now he has been stopped and needs more soldiers that are trained, well equipped and who have an adequate resupply system. He doesn't have the time or resources to properly train them or build the infrastructure to support them.

None of this bodes well for him, and the problem with that, is he will have to more and more resort to heavier artillery, missile and air attacks to halt the Ukraine forces... that means more collateral damage and more dead Ukrainian civilians. I suspect things are going to get real ugly, real fast and the war crimes will escalate.

In the end, he will lose both the war and very probably his life. There is one wild card in all this and that is tactical nukes. I cannot see him using them because it will quickly escalate the war into a battle with NATO
- a war he and his country cannot possibly win. Nobody can win that type of war and as long as he remembers that, the wild card won't be played. The problem there is when a wild animal is cornered, all bets are off.

NATO and the Ukraine have no choice. The only one left with a choice is Putin.

@Ferise1 Your opinion and since you know zip about it, you opinion is pretty much useless. NATO did not poke the bear. NATO said you can go this far and go no further. He choose to go further. His bad.

@Ferise1 NATO was formed off the back of WW2 as a means for European countries to protect themselves against another “Hitler” style invasion where one European country invades another for no justified reason during peace time.
Putin became Hitler when he invaded Ukraine in February.
Unfortunately Ukraine wasn’t part of NATO (and are still awaiting an invite). Had they been part of the NATO alliance Russian forces would have encountered NATOs combined forces during the initial part of the invasion. The Russians would have been stopped on their tracks and sent back to Russia in body bags before more damage was done.

@Ontheroad ooh I’m sooo sorry. Should I have kept my comments to grunts only so that he could understand?

@justanothername I'm thinking stick drawings would be about his speed. You could caption them, but no words with more than one, at most two syllables.
