Russians plunder $5M farm vehicles from Ukraine -- to find they've been remotely disabled

(CNN)Russian troops in the occupied city of Melitopol have stolen all the equipment from a farm equipment dealership -- and shipped it to Chechnya, according to a Ukrainian businessman in the area.

But after a journey of more than 700 miles, the thieves were unable to use any of the equipment -- because it had been locked remotely. All the equipment is tracked by remote GPS. The best they could do is sell some parts and all of the serial numbers are registered for each valuable part.

the removal of valuable agricultural equipment from a John Deere dealership in Melitopol speaks to an increasingly organized operation, one that even uses Russian military transport as part of the heist.

I guess they're 'Russian' to get the measly profit they made from sale of parts. Which was probably less than the fuel spent to transport the equipment 700 miles - for nothing.

@PatKirby other than wheels/tires and implements, there isn't much they can strip off that isn't plastic or controlled by computer...
