I've been to Jamaica 3 times

Specifically Negril and Montego Bay.
Such beautiful beaches and people.
Prayers for their safety 🙏🏻

I love my home country. I haven't been able to go back though since 2011. It's expensive to travel to and I have just been managing by doing holidays to cheaper destinations. One day I will make it back there. I just hope this hurricane doesn't destroy so much the people can't recover.
They deserve a break, over the years they have been up and coming and this could really set them back.

@Mellowgirl might be a while before you can make it back now. I really hope it's recoverable. 🙏🏻

Most of those have nothing....They live in cardboard houses....you don't see any of that because they of course don't want them seen....They don't let them anywhere near the resorts and hotels......Take a walk up into the hills you'll see the poverty....just don't be walking through some guy's marijuana field!!!....They are great people!!!It's going to be a nasty one...pray for those in Melissa's path!!!

@Nevertooold I know... 😥

I feel so bad for our brothers and sisters on the island. We have been through a couple of cat. 3 storms, but we evacuate for cat 4 or 5. We will send help as soon as it is safe to do so.

Done! This is a historic storm 30 40 inches of rain ,160-180 mph winds,it will be quite a different island after Melissa as it will make geographic changes..very frightening event

@Lilymoon Hopefully the RED CROSS will be in quickly,it'll be a mess....and in the US electric companies send crews out of state;I hope they can do that out of country
Lilymoon · F
@bookerdana hope so 👍🏻

I'm in Florida -I know what they are going through pre-storm and don't envy them after it goes through
Lilymoon · F
@Pretzel yeah I hear it's slow moving... not sure if that makes a difference or not
Pretzel · 70-79, M
@Lilymoon yeah, it means the hurricanes winds will have more time to beat up on them. there's not enough land mass to slow it down - although the mountains will help a little.
Ravens80 · 46-50, F
@Lilymoon definitely going to be catastrophic. Winds 140 or higher will decimate most everything especially poor built structures.

This storm is incredibly dangerous with 16 foot wave swells on the shore. Islands can get so overwhelmed and take a very long time to recover, witness Puerto Rico when trump was president. Wait, we never got rid of him.

It is a beautiful country with beautiful people.

One love.

Are they somehow prepared for the storm?
Lilymoon · F
@JanaF47 I would hope so
JanaF47 · 46-50, F
@Lilymoon I would be afraid Jamaica could have problems as a really poor country.
Nevertooold · 56-60, M
@JanaF47 Pretty tough to get ready for a cat 5...there's a lot of poverty there but the people still seem so friendly!!!!
