I hate that civilians on both sides are getting hurt and wish both groups could peacefully coexist. I can relate to the Palestinians, who are hated, while Israel pretty much has the world on its side. When I hear the arguments for displacing the Palestinians and destroying their homes, I’m reminded of U.S. history.
@bijouxbroussard Yeah.. The old double standard is alive and well..There is no right side here. Human got to the top of the food chain by being murderous thugs and the losers either fit in or die out. That doesnt make it right. But it is how it is...😷
@LeopoldBloom They weren’t living in the areas where Palestinian homes are being destroyed to make room for new settlements. I understood that to be the conflict. 🙁
@Longpatrol I’m not anti-Jewish, either. But I think Israel is guilty of unfair practices that would be widely denounced coming from any other country. There are Jewish people who recognize and have spoken out against its unfairness, as well.
@bijouxbroussard Palestinians were displaced during the war of independence. But that's not what the current dispute is over. One of Hamas' core demands is a Jew-free Palestine "from the river to the sea." That's not negotiable. Much of what you characterize as Israeli abuses are security measures for self-preservation. Do they go to far? Definitely. But one side at least makes a token effort to spare non-combatants, while the other side deliberately targets them. The events of the past few days should give everyone an idea of what to expect if Israel were to open its borders and allow the Palestinians to move freely. Many of them wouldn't cause any problems, but enough of them would use that as an opportunity to finish what Hitler started.
So we're left with a desperate population in Gaza that sees no option other than causing as much destruction as possible before they're destroyed themselves, and a frustrated population in the West Bank that is looking at a power vacuum as soon as Abbas kicks the bucket.
As for other countries being denounced, what China is doing to the Uyghurs (who happen to be Muslim) goes far beyond anything Israel is doing to the Palestinians, yet you rarely hear it mentioned, and there's certainly no outrage over it.
@LeopoldBloom It sounds like Hamas is the problem, and need to be dealt specifically, but I’m certain it’s more complicated than that. And reportedly Palestinian homes are being destroyed for new settlements where they’re not allowed to live. How is that a security measure ?
As for what’s going on in China, as I said, nobody’s criticizing the people who support the Ukraine for not lobbying for the Uyghurs, as well. The cynic in me wonders if the latter also have blond hair & blue eyes ? I suspect perhaps they don’t.
You may recall during the Kosovo conflict the U.S. had no problem opening their doors to Muslims who looked like these…
