The relationship with the right wing, Jews, and Israel is paradoxical.

The right wing loves Israel because of biblical prophecy and they like how Israel denies human rights to Muslims, but the White Nationalist wing is anti-Semitic, believes in Jewish conspiracies and space lasers, and are holocaust deniers. However, they also hate Muslims, but are anti-Zionist. They kind of look away at Jarrod and Ivanka.

Leftists on the other hand are usually anti-Zionist, advocate for human rights of Muslims, and used to like Seinfeld and Woody Allen.

So what the heck does that make me? I don't exactly love Israel, and I recognize that it was reinstated as a country because right wing Bible humpers wanted to fulfill a prophecy, but I also happen to think it's about time they got it back, after the Romans drove them out. I think of the Palestinians as not having a legitimate claim because they weren't there first.

@LordShadowfire

You would seem to be solidly anti-Zionist.

I think the mood in the late 40s was sympathetic to Israel for a couple of reasons, namely, the Holocaust and cultural affinity for Jews verses Arabs. The colonial powers of France and Britain were on the way out, and the Jews seemed like a nice alternative.

My sense of Christian fundamentalists being pro Israel evolves from Christian Fundamentalists from the late 70s. Lot's of Holy Land tours, and a growing obsession with the End Times.

I don't see Israel going away, nor do I see two states. Israel has decided that will never happen and are content oppressing Palestinians.

@Fukfacewillie Yes and the problem is actually us. Specifically those of us who don't stand up and say, yeah we're Jews, but we don't owe anything to an oppressive apartheid state. The Evangelicals are a special kind of crazy fucked up.

Bottom line, we can do something about it, through advocacy, but we still want to show up at family gathering, with people who will lecture you about apartheid everywhere, and how we're not paying attention to our US racial divide, etc, while praising Israeli policies. Shame on us.

@Northwest The Jewish lobby and Bibi saw the writing on the walls and began appealing to the right wing. I'd love if American aid was conditioned on the settlements. Will never happen.

I don't have those conversations, luckily, not sure how I would handle them.

@Fukfacewillie I just really wish the Palestinians could be happy not being in possession of that particular patch of land, but unfortunately, they consider it sacred. To me, either all land is sacred or none of it is. But they want that specific piece of the Earth, and I agree that a two country solution won't work.

@LordShadowfire I think most were fine with a two state solution. I know Israeli considered the land given to them by God, so that's pretty sacred.
