Cool, in what part? I loved Chamonix in ski season, Provance in the spring.

@samueltyler2 right in the center ! Chamonix is gorgeous indeed and it is the first year that they are not having any snow.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@revenant wow, that is impossible to take! Climate change is real!
revenant · F
@samueltyler2 majority do not deny that fact
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@revenant unfortunately, those in power, not just in the US, seem either to not believe, or believe it is too difficult to do anything about it.

@samueltyler2 natural or manmade is the division
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@revenant well, it shouldnt really matter which may be more important, we can't alter any influence that is not man made, but we do have a responsibility to change what we can. We are the stewards of our environment and should exercise our responsibility.

@samueltyler2 this shame bit can and is being exploited. Excellent source of tax revenue
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@revenant how can you say that? Where does it generate "tax revenue?" It might generate job production, that could produce income tax, but how else?
revenant · F
@samueltyler2 makes you pay for everything you do for the planet's cause ! petrol , planes taxes, 200 garbage cans you got to own etc
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@revenant the tax on petrol came well before the understanding about climate change. It was originally intended to be used to pay for building roads, but, unfortunately, in most places, it is mingled with general funds and the roads get neglected. The same with taxation on airline fares. That was supposed to help pay for air traffic controllers, airports, etc. Without taxes to pay for that, where would the funds come from?
revenant · F
@samueltyler2 carbon tax ? this was all set in place a few decades ago
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@revenant there is no current "carbon tax." To my knowledge, it is a theoretical concept only. I don't really understand it well.
revenant · F
@samueltyler2 canada
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@revenant I will have to check on that. To my knowledge, companies are supposed to be taxed based on the extent they contribute to the climate change. They buy into the system through a series of exchanges and if unable to do anything else, they are taxed. That does seem fair, since it is sort of a tax on usage. Hopefully, built into it, is the use of those funds for reclimatiuon of the environment.

@samueltyler2 carbon tax is just a tax with a virtue signalling ribbon
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@revenant signaling ribbon?

@samueltyler2 what is this supposed to achieve ? British Columbia had it first and it did nothing
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@revenant actually, according to some sources, Canada, in general, has been lowering its use of fossil fuels. I don't know specifically about BC. The tax is supposed to be placed at the source, not at the consumer. Of course, it will be factored into the eventual cost to the consumer. I went to a lecture about the concept last year and was impressed by how a small contribution would have a huge effect. I don't remember the specifics, but, I invited the lecturer to give a repeat lecture to a community group in my town. There is a great deal of misunderstanding, and anger, over it which has to be aired and dealt with if we are to anything about saving our future on Planet A.

@samueltyler2 yeah well ask Albertans ! and of course the consumer pays...consumer always pays. Loss of jobs ? no problems ...for utopian ideas which sure take their time to come to tuition and much cronyism. Electricity prices is going through the roof to pay for those ideous windturbines.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@revenant is it really worth my efforts to rebut your comment? The price of electricity has not risen any faster than the cost of everything else. If you think the economy can expand without any inflation, you are kidding yourself. If what you are saying is that we need to have a wider safety net, I agree. The weaker, less suffer more than the more affluent.
