Something startled me last night.

It was the realization the King of the UK is one year older than I am.

I am not looking for a monarchy. But Kings are usually old.

Which means I am.

While I’m at it, what are we supposed to call the UK? Recently, during the soccer beautiful insanity, I heard a good many people saying “I am from England.”

I am British legally. I was born in Wales, but have lived almost my entire life in England. I do not follow any sport so British is fine.

Only one U.S. president has been born after I was.

At the time, the thought of being older than the president freaked me out.

But now, I hope all of them from now on will be younger than me!

I am referring to Obama. All the other presidents, living and dead, were born before I was.

The late Queen was very young when she began her reign. So was Victoria.

Monarchs are not necessarily old.

To be fair, Charles has always appeared old. Very much seeped in the nineteen fifties.

@peterlee And I used the phrase “usually old” not always. Not invariably.

And I doubt that a 6 yr old king was ACTUALLY king. In name and title, but not actually ruling. Isn’t that what regents are for? Richard II was 10, so likely the same deal.

And in the end, this is rather silly. So I’m out. You may continue if you like.

To answer your question, although England is one of the United Kingdom countries, those four nations played independently, under their own flags, in the World Cup.

There was no "United Kingdom" or "Great Britain" team as there are in the Olympics.

Also, many people from any of those countries will give you that country as their nationality anyway.

You do know the UK includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?
You call the UK the UK, you xall England England. If you call any of the other countries England, you will be severely rebuked.

We didn't qualify for the World Cup.

@Mindfulness Yes, I do know that. I was inquiring as to what is the proper name for all the separate parts together.

So the citizens are all part of the UK, but describe themselves as Irish, Welsh, Scots and English.

@Mamapolo2016 Our legal nationality is British. The UK includes other overseas territories, but most residents of the British Isles (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) are legally British.
