Great Britain - The Mighty Conquerors

At it's height, The British Empire ruled over a quarter of the world's population.
Besides economic exploitation, The colonisation involved human rights abuses and massacres that would be unacceptable today.

Britain retains sovereignty over 14 territories outside the British Isles.

Fifteen Commonwealth realms voluntarily continue to share the British monarch, King Charles III, as their head of state.
These fifteen nations are distinct and equal legal entities – United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Belize, Grenada, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu.

Few will remember this ever happened. Too young and it wasn't huge news at the time. In fact it was hushed over. An embarrassment to both countries I believe.

Yet I never understood why the USA had to get involved in Grenada under Reagan. Why didn't the UK handle the Marxist regime?

It's their territory after all.

It was said that they were not informed (Margaret Thatcher) about the situation. Yet why were they not informed and do anything about the Marxists before that? 🤷🏻‍♂️

To become a Marxist regime takes years behind the scenes. 1979 from what I have read of it.

Almost like the UK really didn't care about their own sovereignty.

1983 wasn't that long ago historically. I had already been out of the military myself for a year.
Yes...but we gave the world cricket!
I thought St Tropes & Trinidad and Tobago were also part of the Colony?

@Vivaci Trinidad and Tobago were under British rule from 1802 until 1962 when it gained Independence. The Queens remained Head of State until it became a Republic in 1976.
I always thought St Tropez was French?
