Elizabeth was the Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The last queen who was solely Queen of England died in 1603.

@kittee England is only one of the four nations of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The last person to be queen solely of England was Elizabeth Tudor, who died in 1603. James VI of Scotland took over the English throne to add to his own- hence the United Kingdom. After the Union of the Scottish and English parliaments in 1707, the title changed to Great Britain (as opposed to Lesser Britain, or Brittany in France.)
Nothing here is simple!
But referring to Britain as England is insulting to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

@LizOwen i know but england is the biggest country and most scottish people live in england, who cares if we insult northern ireland
LizOwen · 41-45, F
@kittee Biggest but not only. And most Scottish people live in Scotland. Calling Elizabeth Queen of England would equate to calling Biden President of California. And why insult the people of Northern Ireland?

@kittee No, just historical facts that every school child should learn. I certainly learned it at school.
