You know I'm neither. Yet I suspect, given the area, it is not done. Mushrooms in swamp areas tend to be poisonous. It's hard enough to pick the good mushrooms without swamp waters and gasses.
Now creatively? I don't see any problems. Being creative is how both started.

@DeWayfarer I don’t mean wild mushrooms, I know better than that. We do eat mushrooms, I just wasn’t sure about this particular dish. It’s the kind of question I used to be able to ask my mom. 🥺

I have never had dirty rice with mushrooms, but I think some people replace the meat with mushrooms for a vegetarian version. I see no reason you couldn't use mushrooms along with meat--it would be good any way you cook it.
The rice is dirty, the mushrooms are dirty, seems like it would fit, though I don't know of mushrooms in those recipes (of course I'm not Creoles (or Cajuns) neither

I am neither creole, nor cajun (nor American lol) - but I wouldn't have thought mushrooms were an appropriate ingredient.

I’m nether Creole nor Cajun...I generally put pesto in my rice, and sometimes onion.
bijouxbroussard · F
@DragonFruit I’m not sure how to describe "dirty rice" exactly. It has spices in it that probably wouldn’t work with pesto (although I love pesto). 🙂

@bijouxbroussard I use Italian spices more than anything else....because it’s what I grew up with.
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
I typically add stir fried mushrooms , carrots, beans , chillies over rice..
bijouxbroussard · F
@scorpiolovedeep That sounds really good. 😊
I haven’t made "dirty rice" from scratch in a long time. My grandmother used to put everything in, including ground beef, andouille sausage, even shrimp sometimes. But I couldn’t remember about mushrooms. Creole style is more tomato-based, while Cajuns tend use more chopped peppers.

Maybe. I would saute fresh mushrooms and add with a bit of soy sauce. Most recipes are suggestions not law.

I always wash my rice first …

bijouxbroussard · F
@SW-User It’s not literally dirty. 😉

@bijouxbroussard I know. 😂
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard Dirty rice is tasty. It was probably poor people food, so yeah, add whatever you want or have on hand. Now, how hot do you want that?
exexec · 61-69, C
That makes me want to visit our favorite Cajun restaurant.
