One of the little girls in the kids classes at work is American

She was telling her classmates about school shootings (we're in Canada). My friend, who is the teacher, thought about stopping her, but decided they should know, so she let her go.

Poor girl has been through a few, and in one one of her friends was stabbed (not sure of the details).

So horrifying. I always felt pretty safe at school

Poor girl has been through a few

A few!! I can't imagine experiencing something so traumatic, let alone going through that more than once and at such a young age! Poor baby. :(

@SW-User I know. It made my heart sink. ):

That's terrifying 🥺 I've never witnessed a school shooting but I did see a dude get killed by getting hit with a backpack full of bricks. They closed school for a week because the gang the guy was from was threatening to shoot up the school but they never did.
I also saw a kid get caught with a gun in class & he ran until he got tackled.
Another time I saw a kid with a gun was right right after we walked outta class. He handed the gun to one of his friends then proceeded to get into a fist fight with another student.

& I thought it was so wild that the year after I left high school, my neighbor two doors down from me brought a gun to school, killed her gf then killed herself in front of everyone. My siblings were at the school when that happened but I wasn't. That one freaked me out because my sister called me while it was going on
Horrifying that such young children witness so much. ❤🙏🥺
@caccoon I don't know where to begin, I just look on in disbelief and sadness.

@Mindfulness "corrupt" in olde speak, but in today's speak, the people that are governing countries this way are "mentally ill".

I'm disgusted and powerless. In my own country too
@caccoon the whole world's government's are corrupt and I can't see it changing.

Poor girl !! I can't imagine experiencing that as an adult, never mind a child 🥺

@Teslin exactly...

I'm from the U.S. and thankfully I am old enough to have attended school back when it still was very safe. We never had a school shooting incident in my school, although one year a boy did bring an unloaded gun to school "to show his friends", which is bad enough. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm 100% in support of TIGHTER gun laws here, I don't think ordinary citizens have any need for automatic assault rifles.

Toronto is known for it's gun violence too. I remember one particularly violent New Year Eve, I think there were something like 30+ firearm incidences
caccoon · 36-40
@Longpatrol true, we still have guns here and people use them. But I could count on one hand the amount of times I've actually seen a gun in person, and I've never heard one being fired.

(Except in the country, farmers and such).

@Longpatrol Very different phenomena though.

Mass shootings can show up anywhere and target anyone. Maybe there's some some patterns to analyze but idk them.

City violence is usually gang violence, and it's almost always between gangs. So if you're in that life it can be extremely violent, but if you're not its invisible.

There's no value judgement here, they're just not equivalent problems.

Also Toronto really isn't that violent. I spent ten years in Edmonton which has twice the murder rate and I never once saw a gun.
Honestly its terrifying to just go anywhere here with the thought of a shooting happening. There was one on 4th of July at a park during an event where there were many children and families. 🥺 it’s scary.

> Poor girl has been through a few,

JESUS CHRIST I knew they were unusually common but not so common one child could experience them repeatedly!!
caccoon · 36-40
@CountScrofula I know... She is only 12 years old
Ay.. there’s something going on here..

I didnt know you were canadian.. i always just assumed you were american 😅

That’s absolutely heartbreaking. I never worry about sending my kids to school and that happening.

You even have to worry about attending big events in the US. It’s really sad 😢.
