Yes, this is just SO accurate, but I'd always just assumed it wasn't something confined to Australia, and that other English-speaking countries (like Canada - not the US though, because what they use isn't English) did as well.
And I've often been confused by these expressions. Then of course there is the ultimate delusional lie - "She'll be right (mate)".
