Australian federal election records landslide victory for anti-Trump anti-neo-con sentiment

Yay - a victory for common sense!

The best part - the Clive Palmer 'Trumpet of Patriots' direct Donald Trump Project 2025 mirror party so far has won zero out of the 150 seats, and the mainstream one (the Australian Liberal/National party) has been smashed.

Trump is helping liberals all over the world get elected

@sstronaut Canada just had an election - did they not just throw out their version of the neo-con's too?
@zonavar68 That's my point, thanks to Trump, liberals are winning everywhere

@sstronaut Remember that unlike in the USA where you call Democrats 'liberals' here in Australia the 'liberal party' *is* the Australian Trump Republican Party aka Australian Liberal National Party (LNP) , and they just lost the election in a very big way.
@zonavar68 awe that's where the confusion is...

Yeah, I'm very confused by how the Neo-con are considered "liberal"...

If they're the liberals, then what are your conservatives?

@sstronaut The Liberal Party is the name of the Australian Coservative party. They are linked to the national, who are really the rural party, to form a coalition. They are both currently out of favour with voters..Here, Labor represent the workers and the middle ground..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman The terms liberal and conservative are the exact opposite to me here in the USA, it's blowing my mind that some are using both at the same exact time 🤯

Okay, so you got the Conservative and National on one side.

Labor in the middle ground.

Then who's on the opposite side?
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@sstronaut LNP is right wing (conservative like US GOP/Republicans), ALP is left-wing (like US Democrats), in the middle are the independents.

On the fringe you have the Greens (right-wing left-wingers), and orgs like Pauline Hanson's 'One Nation' and Clive Palmer (who had to create a new party this year after his old one was rejected from registration).
@zonavar68 Well then, Trump is getting left wing politicians elected everywhere. How is that?

That being said, here in America, I remember the left and right wing stuff by

Left wing = Liberal (American)
Right wing = Republican

But I guess that trick doesn't work elsewhere.

@sstronaut The USA is not the whole world. 8-) Just saying. ;-)
@zonavar68 I never said it was. Just saying. 😉

But the liberals also being the conservatives just blows me mind, and that's why it's so darn confusing to follow...

And so the Workers part is on the opposite end.

Thanks for explaining it.

In fairness, in no fault on my own, we literally get almost zero international news here on TV, even when you go looking for it.

@sstronaut I recommend SBS world news streaming as a source for global information😷

@sstronaut Yep in the southern hemisphere many things are opposite, like the seasons.
@zonavar68 Thanks for the abridged version of contemporary Australian politics and the update on your most recent elections.
ps I am very happy that the USA is not the whole world or things would be boring.

@sstronaut Not in Australia. The party that campaigned championing Trump delivered the worst result in 80 years. The Centre Left Labour Government was returned with an increased majority.

And the bathwater drains in the opposite direction! 😸
