Novak Djokovic granted Medical Exemption to play at OZ open Tennis

Well there is one for the books. After all the 💩 Victoria has been through, some bratty Serbian gets a free pass to come and get richer and Victorians are supposed to thank the Federal and State government. I have been behind our state Premier as he stood up and held the line for Victorians against Scummo and his corrupt clowns in Canberra. But in one hit he lost me. Sorry Dan. theres a couple of informal votes in your electorate now. As for the tennis. Boycott it, the TV and the sponsors. I dont get mad, just even.😷

And in the latest development, Djokovic has had his Visa cancelled by Federal authorities, and will be removed to a Quarantine Hotel, pending a flight out. He is "unhappy" and threatening a court appeal, which will go nowhere.
A couple of media quotes:😷

"Novak Djokovic’s visa has been cancelled and his Australian Open campaign is in tatters.

The tennis star was told to leave the country after controversy erupted over his vaccine exemption but he is expected to challenge the decision in Victoria’s courts.

Djokovic will reportedly be transported to a quarantine hotel in the city before boarding a flight back to Europe.

Prime Minster Scott Morrison tweeted on Thursday morning: “Mr Djokovic’s visa has been cancelled. Rules are rules, especially when it comes to our borders. No one is above these rules."

@whowasthatmaskedman what happened with Sinatra?
@newjaninev2 He didn’t get the COVID vaccine either.

@newjaninev2 His 1974 tour didnt go so well. He didnt like the lack of "respect" he got from the local press and made insulting comments, didnt like how they were reported, and it escalated. In the end, was locked in his hotel room with the hotel staff refusing him service and the airport staff refusing to clear his plane. This link will give more detail.

@Gusman Thats a "Yes Minister" excuse if ever there was one. In terms of the relative good (compared to the totally bent Victorian Liberals) he has done, this is a shame. But he drilled into a nerve nearly every Victorian will feel, having been the most locked down people in the world and having listened to Djokovic whining out of his hotel window this time last year. I bet there will be protests being planned as we speak for when he is on court.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Let's hope Djokovic will have to run a very irate gauntlet to get into the venue.
Though I am sure they will sneak him in through some backdoor.
I envisage hecklers courtside will be evicted.
Most of the spectators will accept their "God" without a whimper
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Gusman Sadly you sre probably right. However, I do have a vision of a fire waterbombing aircraft making a pass over the courts while hes playing. However, I doubt there is that much justice in the world.😷

Novak Djokovic's lawyers launch court action after visa cancelled, putting Australian Open campaign in doubt
A brief hearing in the Federal Circuit Court in Melbourne at 3pm was adjourned for an hour.
The court reconvened at 4pm but the hearing was then adjourned again until 6pm.
Lawyers for Djokovic said they had been advised Tennis Australia would need a definitive answer by Tuesday for scheduling purposes.
But Judge Anthony Kelly said "the tail won't be wagging the dog here".

At this stage, it is expected there could be an interim decision tonight, before further hearings on Monday morning.
It’s expected those hearings will revolve around when, or if, Djokovic will be removed from Australia.
During the earlier hearing, Judge Kelly asked if Djokovic had "tennis practising facilities" in the hotel he was detained in and if not whether he could moved to one that did.

Other considerations discussed were whether the matter of his detention and visa would be decided before the Australian Open starts on January 17, and what dates he is scheduled to play.

I portend he will be allowed to stay and will play.

@newjaninev2 Not much anyone could do.
Discontentment. Yes, Protest rally, yes.
Dan has already shown he is prepared to send in the troops with rubber bullets.
So the law will rein
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@Gusman Kick him out for being a dick head and massive ego
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Gusman if 50 hecklers take it in turns, so they’re removed one by one, and after one is removed the next one starts (but only then), it could easy delay a match by over three hours.

not advocating such a tactic... just saying
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
I love tennis... but this year I won’t be watching the Australian Open
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@newjaninev2 Our Premier swore blind he wouldnt be getting an exemption to enter Victoria. As it hjappens I live in his electorate and he has already had an email from me saying 🖕 him with a rude letter to follow.😷
Gusman · 61-69, M
Really sucks how these people are looked after.
There should be no way he was given a Medical Exemption.
You and I are mere mortals and must do as told.
People like Djokovic are perceived as gods and dictate their own terms.
We are all looked upon as being fools by both Federal and State Governments.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
His visa has been revoked and he is supposed to be getting deported from Australia today.
@Gusman @KiwiBird @whowasthatmaskedman Well I just heard on ABC news during tea at the test that he doesn’t actually have the medical exemption he was claiming.
We’ll see.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales Yeah. We will see what comes out in the wash.
He will appeal and maybe there will be a deal done to change his visa stipulations.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales He doesnt and never did. And had a letter from no less than the Fed Health Minister saying just that. But to be just they will give him court time before he has to go home. Side note. The quarantine hotel he is in was formerly occupied by asylum seekers who complained about it. Seems to me like he is being "extended every courtesy" and made to feel welcome.😷

MONEY MONEY MONEY - over the COVID

AMAZING as soon as a major sporting event comes around - different rules apply
eli1601 · 70-79, M
Haven't watched tennis since Borg, McEnroe, and Connors.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@eli1601 Well, is it OK if we count you as boycotting the Australian Open this year in protest? 😀
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@newjaninev2 Always glad to help. 👍
