That is precisely why Republicans have turned the USA into the most backward nation in the world. The real tragedy however, is the abject lack of pushback from Democrats on this issue.

@swirlie Well everything worked so much better when the slaves knew their place...😷

@swirlie You've pretty much nailed it. Republicans are aggressive in their bigotry and ignorance, seeking to take us back to the 1890s or earlier. And democrats are feckless and weak. Either lacking in backbone or paid off by the corporate masters to lose on purpose, which is a big reason they can't get anything substantial accomplished even when they have power.
The US empire is crumbling for what history will show to be fairly easily avoided and solvable problems.

@swirlie No arguments here. Even when I think back on Republicans that were pretty decent, they were usually considered liberal or progressive for their times. Part of the weakening of democrats is this neoliberalism that is actually more conservative-lite than an actual forward thinking world view.
@ViciDraco
Yes, you make a good point. Donald Trump for example, had been a registered Democrat for 30+ years prior to him entering politics, where suddenly he crossed the aisle and became whatever it was that served his best interest, which of course was Republicanism. Trump suddenly became an ardent Republican overnight and without warning.
But the thing is, Donald Trump's modus operandi is more Democrat in nature than it surely is Republican. Trump is a forward thinker, not a conservationist.
So then, what Trump has done as President is re-branded the concept of Republicanism to liberalized conservatism which then formed the new Trump Party which is neither Republican in nature nor Democratic in principle, but extremely right-wing in practice. Hitler did the same thing in 1930 where he piggybacked his extreme-right German Labor Party on the back of Mussolini's center-right popularity to gain Hitler the notoriety that he so desperately needed to succeed.
The old traditional American Republican Party no longer exists in America today. That ship sailed the day Trump took his second Oath of Office. Today, America has the Dem's and the Party of Trump, the latter of which are extreme right-wing conservatives being led by a Democrat in wolf's clothing. The Republican Party no longer has a mandate nor a true identity.

@swirlie As you said, today's republican party operates on fear. The people at the top, like Trump, don't really subscribe to the same fear but they know how to weaponize it. Trump might be a different animal, but I would argue the driving forces of the republican party are very much the same as they have been since the onset of the southern strategy.
As for Trump's modus operandi, I would say that it doesn't really align with anything that resembles north American politics within the last few decades. It's very much more aligned with dictatorial powers. Dems have been coalition building and seeking compromise and negotiation. Pubs have been in a group think lockstep for a long time (which is easy when you don't have new thoughts and just want to go backwards). Trump doesn't try to coalition build or negotiate like Dems. He tries to bully from a position of perceived superiority. It's how he's always operated, even his businesses. Calling it the Trump party like you did makes the most sense because it really is something different. Something more hitler-esque.

Donald Trump's father, the Late Fred Trump was born in New York after his parents immigrated to the USA from Germany. Fred Trump as he grew into his teens and early 20's would often go over to Germany to visit relatives still living there. While in Germany, Fred became a member of the Hitler Nazi movement, otherwise known as the "Hitler youth" where he'd carry signs in the street and pretend that he was a real German among all of his friends. Then he'd come back to the US when the party was over and resume life as an American slum landlord building superintendent with his mother who owned the Property Management company which she Founded, known as 'Trump Corp'.
Fred Trump strongly believed in the Hitler movement and his beliefs were then taught to Fred's children, one of whom was Donald J. Trump. Donald learned of the concept of White Supremacy from an early age from his Late father, Fred Trump of which Donald has attempted to practice among his extreme right-wing followers in the US. That is why Donald seems very Hitler-esque as you say.

...no different than many Americans today being bewitched by the Trump MAGA movement and it's promises, right?

@swirlie That is certainly my perception. Look at the strident bleating of some MAGAts here..😷
