Having been there in 1960 and being here now, I would have to respectively disagree. They would be told to grow a backbone and protest harder.
I know All In The Family didn't come until the early 1970s, but I can't imagine even Archie trying to defend what is going on today. He had a hard enough time trying to defend Nixon.

A personal example: September 2024 I had a new roof put on my house. Just over 9000$ Four months ago I had a new roof put on my garage, which is a separate structure from the house and obviously much smaller. 8000$, almost as much as the house. Tarriffs did that.
